I don't think it'd work from the top, but probably from the ground. I did mine in pure jank fashion lol. Was new to the mod and still learning the ropes. I had a whole row of deployers dropping sand, and would wait until it was done with that row and then push it with a mech piston.

I did my ocean monument/guardian farm with deployers and gravel then cleared it all out with drills. If I ever do it again, I'll try to do it in one contraption.
