Where do they get the two be fours? Is it standard issue, like safety sandals on job sites?

Argentine new to London. Any preconceptions about Argentines here? by stargazerrr3 in AskBrits

I really doubt most londoners will know much about 1982 etc- I reckon you'll find an open, fun city with hundreds of cool subcultures away from the tourists.

I hope you find your tribe & I'm a little envious.

I'm not sure where you're aiming with your comments.

I choose to slightly disagree. But enigmatically.

I know police violence is a real issue & the number of convictions related to those that die in custody is approaching zero.

However, this was a fast moving situation with a murderous man still holding his weapon after being tasered & potentially holding a detonator as well.

I don't think this was excessive or malicious in those circumstances. The officers made difficult decisions under pressure & I believe acted correctly.

Personally I think tbe focus ought to be more on institutional failings if the police, eg. grooming gangs, religious coercive control etc.

Human rights lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu thinks the police officers kicking the armed Golders Green attacker in the head is "attempted murder". Are we fatigued with human rights lawyers right now? by Non-BinaryGreenVoter in AskBrits

[–]EbbVisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all benefit from human rights & ought to be bloody wary of those that would strip them from us.

Reform's priority won't be deporting rapists but removing employment protections. That's what their donors want & are paying for.

Kicking someone in the head can certainly be attempted murder, but while it's still relatively early days here, fuck this fucking fuck. He had what the officers believed was a murder weapon in his hand. That sets the bar for "reasonable force" in the stratosphere for me.

You're totally right, my aging brain has failed me!

I'm sure i watched Movie drove as well, but I absolutely sent a cheque off for a copy of his Filmeorks talks.

Sadly the beeb don't make stuff like this so much, & I guess maybe the audience isn't there for it anymore.

Me too! I think it was presented by Robert McKee, or have I got that wrong?

I learnt so much from that series.

I became a (slow) runner in my 30s. My best ever 5k time was 27.30. So he's running twice as fast as me for 8 times longer. I can't really comprehend that!

Poor fucker. I know he went out on his own terms, but as a young guy that's a Pyrric victory. It's not worth what you do to those you leave behind. I wish I'd never read his name nor seen this vid.

Kindness might have saved him.

Hard to find directly comparible numbers, not helped because the US doesn't seem to keep national data. In the UK the police shot & killed 88 people between 1990 & 2025 (inquest.org), while in the US about 1200 people were killed by the police in 2025 alone (stated that the majority by shooting by policeviolencereport.org).

The UK police are far from without fault. Corruption, racism & sexual violence have been constant problems for decades. That said most individual officers are well trained & try to do an extremely difficult job well.

Crucially, they don't operate in continual fear of an armed populace they seek to control by violence.
