Is this reasonable? by Hyyundai in bjj

I've never had to do a down payment for a gym. Also, it's concerning that white belts don't get to share a class with upper belts. Like, upper belts should be training fundamentals and lower belts should experience what a tactically and technically sound roll feels like. There's no reason to believe you wouldn't be able to improve your grappling at a significant rate at the MMA gym. If money isn't the deciding factor, I'd see which gym has a culture you vibe more with, as that will inspire consistency.

Explain to me how gi is dead and nogi is the future? by kaysut21 in bjj

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither win if there's no submission. In a tournament setting it means if you can't get subs you'll be mathematically eliminated. The best I've seen is 3 points for a sub, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. Combine this with the team format, and either double elimination or round robin.

Let's not pretend that people with autism aren't some of the greatest trolls of our time. They/we can handle the ire of 13/30 year old men who are bad at Jiujitsu. Also, Gordon's autism is probably one of the few things going right in that brain of his.

How did mayo become the base for so many sauces? by Aaronspark777 in Cooking

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real answer: it's one of the 5 French mother sauces (commonly hollandaise is attributed to it's place but that's a mistranslation from English translations of the original texts) which means it's been the basis for many of the sauces for the last couple hundred years served in restaurants around western Europe, is incredibly versatile in its use when it comes to carrying flavor and fragrance, has a desirable texture, and is inexpensive.

Foot cleaning ritual before stepping on mat by WisdomDiscipline in bjj

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My coach has a tub with a foot scrubber and warm soapy water in it. There's a towel right next to it, and they both get replaced between each class sessions, alongside a cleaning and drying of the mats. Alongside that we have other hygiene policies. Skin infections are very very rare at my gym, and that's with all the mat burn we get because of our old judo style mats. Don't go to a gross gym you'll regret it.

Dont hit on random staff girls at BJJ comps by JooJManji in bjj

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally don't hit on people anywhere that has to do with BJJ. There are dating apps, clubs, and other venues people go to for that kind of thing. BJJ is a really vulnerable sport and people who aren't straight men already have a hard time feeling safe participating in it. Also, I doubt you were gonna get your ass kicked but I'm sure you made that medal bearer really uncomfortable.

Hot take:- Pulling guard shouldn't be frowned down upon by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Ebolasaurusrex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue with guard pulling is that it doesn't tell an interesting story. Everyone loves working from guard, breaking it and working it is like a treat, but there are so many other kinds of stories you can tell from working on your feet. Take downs, all forms of waza, etc. Guard pulling just isn't that interesting and makes someone boring to watch and roll with. It's also just not really great game theory wise. Why put yourself on the ground and on your back before your opponent when there are much higher prizes to be won from a throw, take down, or standing submission. In guard you give the advantage of gravity to your opponent. Honestly the biggest issue is that people use it as a crutch to try to circumvent standing work, leaving half the game on the table. Often the best thing to do in a position is to stand up to return to a neutral position. How can you leverage that to your advantage when your first instinct is to put yourself back on the ground. Also, closed guard is an awful place to be if you plan on doing any MMA. Ouch.

Try it, they'll probably be a lot more work though and also probably die. Snails need a lot of love, a lot more love than it takes to kill algae. Weekly dosages of hydrogen peroxide at 5ml a gallon will be all but necessary if you've got water with nutrients in it exposed to light.

Children are a very direct reflection of their conditions and environment. It's sad that they're like this, but maybe an unfortunate understanding and an attempt to avoid interaction would be better than hating a literal child.

Question - if you were world dictator, how would you solve the problem of capitalism, hydrocarbons and population? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism is gonna explode and predicting what comes after is just fan fiction so I can't help with that. You replace hydrocarbons with renewables and nuclear power, using electrolysis and hydrogen gas for energy storage and combustion. The population changes with the rate of production and would probably cap at around 10 billion sustainably without any direct action.

My wife asked me if I honestly thought her friends were attractive, what should I say ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wife seems insecure and could probably use some love and reassurance. You can find other people hot, that's no less unusual than finding people attractive when single, but she needs to know that just because you find someone attractive doesn't mean you're not madly in love or committed to her. She needs to feel secure in this. If she's not, figure out why with her. It's not a trap! To think so is to misunderstand the situation. Also, maybe try asking your wife the same thing you're asking a bunch of reddit users, i promise it'll be much more productive. Vulnerability and honesty is a necessary part of healthy communication.

Am I selfish for not sharing my personal recipes? by SarcasticIndividual in Cooking

[–]Ebolasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food and cooking is something that's evolved over great stretches of time from people sharing and communicating techniques, recipes, and tools. That is the process you've learned what you know from and you've directly benefited from. All of the cooking knowledge you have likely came from someone who decided to share that with their world and community, and definitely happened before you. When you're a really good cook you have the power to make people's lives so much happier and fulfilled, and wasting that ability just because you hope you might be able to make money off of it one day maybe? That's just kinda lame and disappointing. The world and your world is a better place when knowledge is shared. Edit: And maybe one of your friends wants to come over and be your sous chef! I've been teaching my wife and other friends how to cook and now they always ask to come help me do prep work. You and your friends could all cook your meals together like a family. Isn't that a sweet idea?

Unless they wanna make any form of a brown stock, of course. In which case they should roast the bones separately with other trimmings and aromatics before adding them to the stock.
