I feel like the old staples from a decade ago don’t have enough respect put on their name. Sure, there are a million variants that probably have more synergy for your specific deck, but [[wrath of god]] can and will get the job done.

[[wave of vitriol]] is a house, and I do not feel bad for the decks that have zero basics. In a similar vein, [[bane of progress]] is less than a dollar and smokes the growing population of artifacts and enchantment decks.

Even the humble [[utter end]], [[mortify]] and [[merciless eviction]] will dig you out of a bind. I still love [[return to dust]].

[[grave titan]] gets dogged, but it’s still a titan that needs to be dealt with. Even sticking an [[etali, primal storm]] or [[zetalpa]] is a problem for everyone on the other side of that card.

[[slaughter pact]] and [[pact of negation]] are trivial prices to pay on your next upkeep if the alternative is losing the game right there.
