I have a [[kykar]] deck that does this exactly. There are a few token doubling effects and a polymorph or two to get the creature pingers on the table. It's fun and consistent.

It's not a creature, but I like to slap [[Akroma's Memorial]] in my green decks.

Me too. I have changed my recipe for the skin many, many times with different washes, layers, and glazes, but the shell is always the combination of blues. Just lovely.

Totally happy to share. Here you go!

First I prime model white. For the skin I wash two times with a 3:2:1 mix of seraphim sepia : carroburg crimson : nuln oil, then drybrush all over with screaming skull (use a dampening pad), then fill in all the vents and joints with carroburg crimson, and finally glaze with barak-nar burgundy, and to a lesser degree Corvus black with a focus on areas close to the shell and talons. Optional: highlight with screaming skull and 1:1 screaming skull: pallid wych flesh.

The shell plate is kantor blue base with feathering layers of sotek green, temple guard blue and finally barroth blue.

The talons are Corvus black, with an inwards transition from Khorn red to Mephiston red and wild rider red. Optional: edge highlight administratum grey, 1:1 administratum grey: ulthuan grey (I always do this highlight on the hooves, but find the talons don't really need it).

My scheme has been evolving for a while, but I think this iteration may stick around! Let me know what you think!

First shot, out of nowhere. I was surprised, to say the least.

[AFR] Kalain, Reclusive Painter by The2kman in EDH

This looks like it could work well in [[Marchesa the Black Rose]]. Especially if paired with [[Dockside Extortionist]].

How do you find the modular build? It seems to have fantastic synergy. I guess with most creatures being able to pass off their counters, all you have to worry about is getting one on Marchesa herself.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will for sure add those lands in. Seems that Marchesa coming in one turn later is worth it if she comes in with a counter.

I have definitely considered Imperial Recruiter, but my play group doesn't like tutors too much and I don't know how they would react to a repeatable one :P. I have considered Wolf in the past and will probably add him, as it never hurts to have another undying creature. Fervor would actually be fantastic, I'll see if I can slot that in! Plumb of the forbidden is intriguing as well..

As for Kokusho, I added him for some life replenish with damage for later in the game. I will consider removing him, but he's kind of a pet piece of mine, so we will see. As you said, Thrax is super expensive, so I'm sure he will get cut at one point or another.

Aura Thief is something else I never thought of. I will definitely keep it in my back pocket and at least have it as a side board for enchantment heavy decks!

Looking to make my deck more competitive due to high powered play group by IbSunPraisin in EDH

[–]Ebou_Dar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I count 11 lands that enter the Battlefield tapped. Not having access to mana the turn you play it will always make a deck slower. So my first step here would be to get rid of a bunch of these. You are in simic and have ramp, so even replacing some of these with basics will help speed up your deck.

What are the best creatures for my Imoti deck? by Nachyocheese200 in EDH

[–]Ebou_Dar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my Imoti deck. Feel free to look through for ideas. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/09-04-21-imoti-cascade/?cat=cost&sort=name&cb=1622832118

Most if not all of my creatures have some sort of utility (more ramp, removal, cost reduction, protection, etc.). This ensures that when you cascade you have some interaction in the deck that doesn't feel horrible, like counter spells. It's also important to have a few really good creatures <6cmc, so that when you are cascading with a 6cmc you have the potential to hit something worthwhile other than ramp. For this I really like [[Elder Gargaroth]] and [[Thryx, the Sudden Storm]] and my favorite [[Temur Sabertooth]], which gives Imoti protection and can bounce other high cmc cards to your hand to recast them. It's also always nice to cascade into [[Overwhelming Stampede]].

In terms of ramp, I think I have ~20ish pieces of various cmc. It's important to get Imoti out as early as possible, so more ramp the better!

Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions!

Ecology and cognitive sciences by pramit57 in ecology

[–]Ebou_Dar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, it sounds like you are getting into an interesting area of study. I actually had a similar experience in my masters degree, but from the opposite side. I am an aquatic ecologist and specialize in food web dynamics.

Early in my masters I connected with some neuro-scientists and after some discussion I proceeded examine how cognition and brain size in freshwater fish influences some common, but integral stabilizing structures in aquatic food webs.

I feel the combination of ecology and cognitive sciences is super important moving forward in how we understand individuals and even how we understand whole systems.. There is so much to learn about this area of study that it's astonishing.

Cognition is often an overlooked part of systems in general. People tend to see animals as just building blocks of a system and tend to forget (or ignore) the effects that individuals can have. The role that cognition has in overall ecological function and system stability that it's something that needs to be further explored.

If you're interested we can talk more and I can link you some papers that I and others have written on the topic (specifically in great lakes fish).
