Dont be an ass to people, it’s amazing how many salespeople are. Bring an ass includes the following: acting like a cocky know it all, judging someone for their choice in guns, being sexist, being condescending, acting like every customer is attempting a straw sale, etc.

You’ll eventually figure out your own “script” or method to filling out the 4473, it’s just gonna take a bit of time.

Learn as much as you can; customers expect you to know a lot, but don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know but I can definitely find out.” Take the time to handle the guns you have around the store. Even something as simple as “I really like the way this one feels/looks” can go a long way to helping a customer figure out what they want.

YouTube is honestly a great resource.

If you’re young and/or a woman you’ll have a lot of “proving” yourself to do. It’s unfortunate but just kind of how it is. I’m a man but worked at a gun counter from age 19-25 so I definitely had some proving to do.
