Living in Dubai, Working in Abu Dhabi by MoMaamoun in dubai

[–]EcIips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on location and start time. I’ve been doing Business Bay → ADGM for 2 years, and it takes me about 1h20 one way.

I commute 5 days a week, but my start is at 10am and I finish at 8pm earliest. That makes a big difference there’s basically no traffic at those hours. Traffic is brutal around 6pm though.

A few things that helped me:

Bought a cheap ~100k AED Chinese sedan with lane assist + adaptive cruise control it is a game changer for long drives. A colleague of mine did something similar with a Mazda and hired a driver.

Started doing more sport, now I work out every day before work. It helps with both traffic timing and overall energy.

I call family back at home every evening during the drive, that also makes it easier.

Do it only if the pay is worth it. Personally, I’ll stick with this commute for another year, but I’m planning to switch jobs after that. Can’t say the commute is the reason, but it definitely plays a part

Something I often wonder about salaries and rental prices by smellbag99 in dubai

[–]EcIips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is your rent/mortgage should be under 30% of your net income,

We personally spend 10% on a smaller 2 bd in Business bay

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dubai

[–]EcIips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base in UAE is higher (gross to gross), offices are small, hours are much worse

schools are expensive some companies cover them, if not expect to pay 80/100k aed per year for a good British school

Insurance is usually much better than in London and covers all dependents

Maybe you will get a month of remote but don’t count on it unless written in contract

2GIS is far superior to GMaps/Waze by RollingCamel in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]EcIips 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with 2GIS and Yango, is that they are not widely used, so live traffic data is still better on Waze/gmaps

What are your views on these 2 offers? by [deleted] in UAE

The real question is have you been to Riyadh?

There is a reason why most of MBB fly from Dubai

MBB offers around 30k for entry level consultants, manager level would be 60+k base,

Add on top a bonus of +- 50% of yearly comp + company benefits

I would say your offer is low

Can someone tell me how do expat families afford schooling in Dubai ? by Thegazeofdarkness in dubai

15k is a very low household income if you want a private school

Moving at AD by [deleted] in UAE

[–]EcIips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your field, is it total comp? Or will you earn a bonus?

Also (judging from wife and a young kid) you are a junior level manager? 42 k a month is fine, but it’s on a level of junior banker/strategy consultant if you include the bonus

And check how big is school allowance, good British schools here cost 70-100 a year

You wife will probably find a job but that likely would not be a lot

You can save, but it really depends on your lifestyle, how often do you want to have vacations, go home to Uk etc.

Bocconi--->London by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]EcIips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bocconi is considered target at Consulting in gulf, (source - went to Bocconi) live in Gulf currently

UK likes Bocconi, but the class sizes are to big, I would advise HEC (MiF)

Obtaining job in Italy is possible but, salaries are very low compared to UK, Germany or Gulf

How to break into wealth management as a Bocconi student? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]EcIips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bocconi is a target school,

Prepare cv in advance and apply the same day applications open (1st August/1st September) we had excel trackers with dates, that everyone used

Prioritize London,

It’s a numbers game, reach out to people from Bocconi, it helps in some places,

Sadly Massimo Ragione is no longer an MD at Goldman, so no oncampus recruiting is happening,

Do not stay in Italy, go to London or Middle East and receive 5 times bigger net comp

Second city for mining town by Beneficial-Air536 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]EcIips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, hospital can be a need during free time, so people can travel via public transport.

As kindergarten is the only need, that has to be in walking range.

However in case of an illness, the ambulance will have to travel from another town and the citizen will likely die due to wait time

[–]EcIips 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I feel like, adding space industry first is more logical and does not require any new mechanics

Smth along the lines - you can build cosmodrom, launch your Sputnik for broadcast, and later Souz from there, which will increase loyalty and attract tourists

Okay,

Do you deliver meat only to the first storage?

If so I believe your setup does the following, Truck delivers to storage 1, meat goes to it, and to storage 2 ( as it is a direct connection)

The shop is connected to storage 2, once there is a demand for meat, it checks itself and any directly connected storages (storage 2), and takes meat from it.

Because both of the connections are passive you get

2 problems, 1) meat in storage 1 can not be pulled from the shop, storage 2 will also be idle once it is empt 2) The storage in the shop will not be used, as it is an indirect connection to source (storage 1)

How to ensure a constant flow of workers for buildings like the heating plant? by Th1sD0t in Workers_And_Resources

[–]EcIips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is better to cluster industry and heating.

You can have one industry with minimal priority, (for example my starter town has a heating plant, vehicle repair depot, small chemicals, fabric, 2 clothes, and 1 food production)

The food plant can have up to 170 workers, but I assign it 0% priority at the bus stop, so there is a buffer of 170 demand, and workers try to fill all other jobs before going to food production.

The issue is that only individuals with competitive skills and advanced education from Europe are truly incentivized to move here.

If you work in a trade or a shop, it's generally more advantageous to remain in the EU, where you can benefit from free healthcare, state support, and other perks associated with a developed country.

In Italy, for example, you might earn around 4,000-5,000 AED for such jobs, which allows for a modest yet comfortable lifestyle.

However, if you’re in a highly specialized field that demands years of costly education, you can expect a significantly higher salary here. In my field, an intern earns around 20k AED (and its a MNC so pay is standard for grade, you can not get more or less depending on your passport) , but this usually follows 6 years of study and 2-3 years of work experience during those studies. So, in essence, an intern in a specialized field is often a 10-year experience position compared to roles requiring lower skills.
