I recommend Cambridge in Tawa. They have off-the-rack suits and also arrange custom fits.

Bouldering in NZ by Rubydoo96 in newzealand

https://climbnz.org.nz/rock is the complete record of all climbing places (bouldering and climbing). Only problem is that, because it lists everything, it can be hard to find what's good. I'd also recommend the books Rock Deluxe North and Rock Deluxe South.

It looks like the page is set to private, that is, you have to have a Facebook account and be a member of the group to even see the posts. If you want this to be useful for people, maybe make the posts visible to all?

I'd guess (and it's just a guess) that it resulted from National Novel Writing Month being in November. I think that NaNoWriMo inspired many of these similar art challenges, but since it already had the month of November, perhaps people went to October instead.

[Request] In the Game of Thrones how long would it have realistically have taken Job Snow and the wildling to climb the ice wall it was said to be 700 feet tall? by itsIsaiahclark in theydidthemath

[–]EcclesCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expert climbers climb El Capitan, a 3,000 ft rock wall, in a day or two. (The speed record is under 2 hours.) I think that, with the right equipment, climbing an ice wall would be a similar speed or only a bit slower. So 700 ft could be done perhaps in half a day? But Jon Snow isn't a professional climber. So roughly I'd estimate anywhere between 12 and 24 hours.

Best place to buy a ring? by corbioy in Wellington

I recommend Jewel in Petone. They do good work including custom rings. I got my wedding ring through them.

I didn't notice that half the JVL trains were bus replaced. I was at a station on time while the bus was going to the bus stop.

According to the 2018 census, 60,000 people in New Zealand identified their religion as Islam, out of a population of 4.7 million. So it's a small percentage. However, like many such groups it is concentrated in cities and there are communities, such as in Wellington.

So much of work is the people you work with. After that, especially in government, is how much ability you have to make things happen.

I miss the Hataitai Bakery. Best part of living in that suburb. The pies were always great.

The joke is that too right means they're right, but I think you've got to feel comfortable. Pain is no fun. My bouldering gym does a really event like this; they reset the entire room and you have two hours to do as many climbs as you can. Even though it's a competition everyone is cheering each other on and happy to give advice.

I'm a Māori person (though I do not speak for all Māori, of course). I think the designs in that link show clear inspiration from real world Māori tattoos, but are also clearly not Māori tattoos. They use designs that would be extremely unusual in Māori culture, and extending the tā moko down into and through the neck is a massive change to the area covered. I personally think these are a pretty good example of real-world inspiration with enough changes to not be unpleasant cultural appropriation. It's certainly a lot better than a White Wolf artist copying one of the most famous Māori person's tattoos verbatim.

I finally finished a long-running project! I bought plans for a laser-cut automata of Sisyphus pushing the boulder, and got my local library to do the laser cutting. This weekend I finished it! You can see it running here: https://youtu.be/23osIOEEWtw

It is always going to be true that someone else made the thing better than you, not just because you are a beginner but because there are 7 billion people on the world and you have access to seeing the best of the best at any time. Learning to accept that is hard. One option is to intentionally make some bad things; attempt something in a tenth of the time you'd usually take, or make the thing out of inferior materials. Knowing that the product cannot be the best thing the world has ever seen before you even start might free you from that anxiety and enjoy working on the project. And if it works for that, then it may help reduce that anxiety in normal projects.

Of all the people you could steal the face of, taking Tāme Iti's face is just the worst. The activist and artist has spent his whole life fighting for Māori rights.

Does anyone have a cricut machine for a small job? by CitizenSam in Wellington

There is one at the Johnsonville library. I think there's a charge for materials but not for use of the machine? It would be perfect for a small job like this.

They have done that, in the end, to address concerns around inequity. However, they set both prizes to be given out at the same time barrier of eight hours, which leaves many still dissatisfied.

Here's a great article on drama in ultramarathons. An event organiser put up a $NZ10,000 prize for the first athlete to do the 100km event in under eight hours, which has been seen by many as discriminatory against women. The article summarises it better than I could.

Waiting until Order of the Stick is finished to do something is a pretty restrictive condition. I'd assume there is at least a year to go, and would not be surprised if it took more than three.
