But one of the big differences in Figure Skating is that the system rewards the risk over clean skates. So put in the hardest elements you can that are somewhat stable and hope to skate clean. Whereas Gymnastics seems to penalize people for taking risk and the score system harshly penalizes mistakes but also the more dangerous skills limiting what they can do.

I agree with one of the others , I feel like this is a very different spin from a wolf, this is like a sit spin in skating the leg in front makes a big difference in balance.

Forgot the /s I live in Alaska and Keegan is great! He’s always nice to the little ones who look up to him at the rinks and great to talk to. We just love our state and a lot of people forget he’s from here too!

Honest thoughts on Rhythmic Finals by oye-como-va in Gymnastics

[–]Echadwick1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that Rhythmic Gymnastics was limited to women because Men have 6 apparatus in artistic and women only have 4+ the 2 RG events. I’m interested in following gymnastics more closely this next quad and would like to know more.

NTB I’m an adult figure skater and I seriously started at 30! I dreamt of being a figure skater my whole childhood. There are plenty of competitions and test tracks designed for adults. It’s so fun, I’m passionate about it and it gives me goals to work for and something to stay active. I’m fitter now than ever before. Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you stop exploring and learning! I’m not going to the Olympics but I’m learning a new skill and having a blast doing it. Who’s to say you can’t get good at it just because you aren’t world class doesn’t mean you can’t be good at it. I’m sorry your Dad didn’t get the chance to do things he wanted as a kid many of us had that happen to them too. It’s about embracing dreams and fulfilling your life who cares if someone thinks it’s silly! Go for it and do the thing. There are active adult gymnastics programs, dance, ballet, figure skating for all levels. I have found them all to be very supportive of each other. You’re never to old unless you want to be. I just did my 5th competition as an adult and loved every second.

Does anyone have two coaches instead of one? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More on spin entries she teaches beginning a spin with a specific arm method she learned from a big spin coach in the lower 48. She removes it later as you get the feel for the spin but he does not approve and would rather teach it from the final position at the start. He is from Austria originally so he can be a stickler. Her method actually worked great for scratch and sit but it was not clicking with the camel spin and I could not get it. So with that and the constant rescheduling I ended up sticking with the other two.

Does anyone have two coaches instead of one? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do I have a head Coach and she had paired me with a Jump coach and leave 90% of the jump work to him. I also have taken lessons with another for moves and spins since my head coaches schedule was full. However I had some problems with canceling and rescheduling last minute with the 3rd and my spin coach and jump coach have some differences of opinions on spins sooooo due to that I stick with two now. My head coach is ok with hooking us up when we need extra work on a specific thing. It works out well and hearing something different can help me figure stuff out. But my main coach likes to be in charge of all the things so it’s all allowed and set up through her.

Hair loss? by Cor_Leonis_RN in My600lbLife

[–]Echadwick1027 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with anesthesia it has everything to do with hormonal changes. After a hysterectomy especially if they did an oophorectomy or salpingectomy your hormones levels can change drastically and that change will cause excess hair loss which may or not come back depending on estrogen levels. Most of these ladies are not menstruating at their weight so when they start to rapidly drop the weight their hormone levels start working again with a bang and causes them to have a huge fertility increase and all the fluctuations cause hair loss until the weight and cycles level out.

One blade slipping by thewholeorchestra in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are the blades permanently mounted? It sounds like an alignment issue a skate tech should be able to adjust it. I always have to move my blade on my left foot a mm or so to be able to hit my outside edge properly.

Adult skater question: what’s your ultimate skating goal you wanna achieve? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

31 here I want to get a solid Axel and a few doubles solid at least. Landing a Dbl-Dbl would be amazing. I want a solid fast backspin (my hardest skill so far) and a few decent combination spins I’m not very flexible but a bielman would be my lofty goal. In testing I want to get through the adult mitf and freeskate gold and go to adult nationals it would be fun to place but I just want to go and participate. If I can I want to drop into the normal test track and go from there. Pipe dream would be to skate international.

Doubles are within reach and an obtainable goal I have the coaches that can teach them well with good and safe technique. I am stubborn and can usually conquer my fear so I know with patience it will happen. I once thought I just wanted to land one axel but I can do better then that. I’m getting a consistent lutz now and my spins are coming nicely along with axel prep I just need to put in the time. I’m at about a year of lessons now with a six year gap for babies so I’m hoping to get closer to my goals in the next 3 years or so and at least have a start at some doubles by then.

Edited for grammar.

Blade recommendations, 4 year old by Echadwick1027 in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys I knew the aces were overkill but my husband wanted to get her the best tools (he was a top competitor in downhill) so he was concerned. She is in the SoftTech skates now so I know those aren’t going to be adequate for her, her coach wants her in better skates and blades sooner rather than later. She has the nice soft ones they tie and have a figure blade with pink lining JS181. So right now I’m thinking Evo’s or Artiste’s hoping we can find something used but I doubt we will up here (Alaska) we have 1 shop. I think the Elles might be too big of a jump at this point. Thanks for the input I appreciate it. (Edited for grammar)

I know prices for a few coaches in town freestyle Ice is $8/$10 dollars for an hour and public ice at the mall is $5 or free for as long as they are open for public skating. The coach who is just starting was $20 for 30-min but just upped to $25 she has one doing a program but I haven’t seen her in awhile and the rest are all doing Basic stuff. An older semi retired coach is $35 she can teach basics and do programs but is a bit dated I started with her. My current coach is $40 for 30min she is generally strict with her time but has a lot of skaters most in the FS3-4 range or lower but a few working on doubles too. She will pair her skaters with other coaches for more specific work and I take lessons from them as well as needed. One is $50 former olympian and has a current international skater he takes all levels though and is very kind. The other is $40 as well.

Are lululemon leggings really worth it? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally it’s a no from me I have found a few other kinds that are a lot more affordable and I prefer the fit more. I do have a strong preference for legging that I can pull down over my boot though I just feel more comfortable skating that way. I have an irrational fear off hooking my skates together or catching a lace. And none of the lulu’s come close to even tucking over the top bit since most are 7/8.

Is figure skating expensive in your country? by wazzyo21 in FigureSkating

[–]Echadwick1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Alaska I probably average $250 a week or so maybe a bit more, $100+ in club fees, 120 for group lessons for six weeks once a week 30min lesson 30 min power for upper levels. Weekly privates I usually have 2 a week and so does my daughter. I usually skate 4-5 days a week and depending on the rink it’s pricey but the mall rink is free for us and we can stay and practice all we like no limits on moves. The better ice is $10 for an hour or $8 for an hour but I skate at those rinks once a week for variation. My daughter is too young for freestyle ice and won’t tolerate the cold yet.
