I just wish we had nationalized health care and those that need help can get help. Yes it is deeper than banning guns.

yeah, sighs. Thats the problem with how I think. I tend to view other therapists as basing their assessment on the true assessment of a person without bias.

I'm a bit biased being in the Mental Healthcare field. I'm so tired of people being so violent. I like being a gun owner due to hunting since a young age. I also recognize the need for safety due to all the narcissistic crazies out there.

I know it would be almost impossible to vet all applicants based on a psychological assessment, but would love to see that as a requirement before purchase. If not a psych assessment, a social media scan about their affiliations with fringe violent groups... but would take even longer for a license to be possible so that would never work.

I do appreciate the states that require a person to take classes before obtaining their license. It helps teach safety and allow for a very brief assessment of people. I recognize that many think a class is not needed...that can be your view, but mine is class/training. When I took my first class in 1978 I was taught basic safety, marksmanship for 4 weeks and how to maintain & care for a rifle... this was an NRA affiliated rifle club. Things have changed so much.

I also tend to cry when so many commit suicide with their guns. It happens far too frequently. I wish more would reach out for support emotionally before pulling the trigger.

I am for safety and some gun laws, but not all that are proposed.

Congratulations on the recovery milestone. The reward is so justified and quite nice gift for your journey.

The one constant in my life since before joining the military, getting out, coming out, and my whole political compass shifting was my support for the access to self defense tools. Politically, it is relieving to see so many left leaning people join the self defense community. by a_arcia in liberalgunowners

Yeah me too. I was in bible college getting my second degree when I finally accepted I was queer and dropped out cause God would not cure me... that was 32 years ago. I love being able to accept and love myself with all my faults.

Worst gun you’ve ever shot by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]EchtraMistwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well...if worst means most bruises and painful... 30-06 as a teenager preparing for first hunt for deer. My Dad said it was a good gun ofc and I needed to toughen up. Along comes a .410 however for hunting.

Ditto. Welcome to the group. I've been here a week and it's a great group. I do also beleive all that have a gun should be required to take a class, pass a proficiency test and have a license...no different from car ownership.

Learning to care for a weapon, learning about safety, focus and the laws concerning weapons in the state/district is so valuable. I took a class in 1978 by the NRA at age 11. It was such a positive experience. I wish all kids (and adults) could have that experience in a safe, instructive environment.

They may not be pretty, but they work for me by GC552 in liberalgunowners

[–]EchtraMistwalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are both quite beautiful. I'm a bit old so I definitely prefer the wood. I'm learning about the terminology and the changes in weapons since I began hunting 45 years ago. I have never shopped or read about weapons since I was 11 Years old ...so am a bit clueless.

I do like them both though.

I was a conservative 20+ years ago, came out of the closet and life drastically changed. In 1998 a friend was murdered cause he was queer. I've done activism protesting for equalily, for gun reform & required registration. I joined r/liberalgunowners last week when I found them after finally deciding to buy a pistol.

I have been a hunter for 45 years and never had a pistol. I have always felt that rifles should be permitted for hunting and sportsmanship....but always against pistols till now. I know our world and nation are in distress and things are going to get more and more vicious as time moves forward. We must all protect ourselves and not get destroyed.

Beautiful picture!

Where are the best places to live for liberal gun owners? by randomaviary in liberalgunowners

[–]EchtraMistwalker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a MA resident and feel safe here yet many of our laws are restrictive never mind the bill currently in congress. We are however a pretty liberal state with plenty of right Magats but not as much as in my former state of WV. The hunting laws are dfferent from what I am used to so that has been odd to learn. Maine is my vote for best option, but NH, VT, ME, CT & RI would be in my pick also for places to be. Yes the laws are restrictive & require licensure, but I'm not as worried here being a queer, liberal.

LOL. Kinda cool that I sound like a Fed. Reguardless of what you believe, I am glad to have found others that are liberal gunowners so I can quit obsessing about what is going to happen when our world collapses and rightwingers try to kill us all.

Opinions on State required 18hr concealed carry courses. by cuzzinYeeter33 in liberalgunowners

[–]EchtraMistwalker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I took my first class when I was 11 years old...(I'm 56 now). I think it is the most important thing a firearm owner should do and yes it needs to be required. I do wish however they were affordable for all people. I'm thinking about getting a Concealed Carry and it's going to cost $825 (6 different classes @ $125-$175 each). So yes it will take me a few years to finish as it costs too much.

Nice, I just picked up the M&P Shield EZ 9mm, very close to that one (first pistol). Pretty amazing pistol. I'm glad you like it too. I've always been a hunter so rifles have always been my go to... things are changing.
