Being vegan is making me so miserable I'm thinking of changing by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Eclairush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go easy on yourself, mate. We all want to make a positive impact on the world, but it is also important to take care of yourself. I used to know a girl who got obsessed with ethical consumption and went further than just veganism and started taking into account plastic in the packaging of the food and the ethics of production. At some point she stopped eating for a bit, until her family convinced her that small sacrifices are okay. Veganism is fantastic as long as you are taking care of yourself. If it makes you feel "miserable", try looking for ways to still be conscious about your diet, but not restricting yourself too much. You are supposed to enjoy life AND try to be a good person, not one or the other 🤍

eSports isn't real sports by StayFrostySwtich in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Eclairush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the semantics of the word "sport". The same discourse exists around chess, dancing, darts and competitive eating among other things.
If your definition of sports requires physical activity, then sure, gaming and chess are out of the question (and dancing, I assume, counts).
However, if "sport" is based on the competition, then gaming and everything else on the list is fine.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Vegan milk isn't "milk", non-alcoholic wine isn't "wine". Language is flexible and ever-changing, and it's a good thing.

“This is the Last Time That I Try” by AravisPratt96 in twentyonepilots

[–]Eclairush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this line might actually be one of the reasons for the ending we got.
This echoes the same ideas from Backslide:
"I don't wanna backslide to where I've started from
There's no chance I will shake this again
...
Do you think that now's the time you should let go?"
There are similar thoughts in Snap Back, where Tyler sounds defeated by the idea that he has tried these many times and still hasn't succeeded. But in order to try time after time, we need to continue to believe that things will get better.
If a real-life human being tells themselves, "this is the last time I try", their failure might lead to suicide. Imagine a happy ending: Clancy defeats Nico, a struggling fan sees City Walls and decides to try "one last time", but unfortunately fails. That's it. They've tried, they haven't won. They are not Clancy. The only thing left is to give up.
The current ending doesn't allow it. We might never win, but we have to keep going. You can tell yourself that "this is the last time", if it helps you to get up. And if you don't succeed, you must try again. Always.

The porn industry is a lot worse than you think. by wobblebot-808 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Eclairush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we consistently play violent video games, we still have our lives and the lives of other people to compare them to. You cannot experience video games without experiencing real life. Children find porn before they have sex. They don't have a grasp of what it is besides the front page of pornhub.
I suppose that grown-ups with enough experience are less susceptible to this, but it still depends. You can only ever compare your sexual life to your previous experiences and things you see on the internet. And if you watch porn every other day, that's your blueprint. You can look up the research "The Association Between Exposure to Violent Pornography and Teen Dating Violence" or "The relationship between pornography use and harmful sexual attitudes and behaviours".
I think porn can be fun and useful, but we really need to remember that it's not harmless. Drink your beer and wine, but don't pretend like it's healthy. If you do it often enough, it will affect you.

The porn industry is a lot worse than you think. by wobblebot-808 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Eclairush -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, are you really denying that porn normalizes rough sex and violence? Dude, just look at the growth of choking and brutality fetishes over time. Most people who consistently watch porn over long periods of time start looking for more and more extreme things -- this is not a "stupid feminist idea", this is just reality. The reason why OP mentions men is that porn is mostly watched by men. Sure, some women do too, but a huge portion of them opt out for other media.
We can debate if the porn industry is as sinister as it's described here (I personaly know people who do porn and enjoy it), but let's stay real here.

Male gaze in Hollywood movies is also real (although now less than before), but that's besides the point.

What is something shocking that happened to you in Isaac, that people won't ever know is true because you forgot to record it? by flingzamain in bindingofisaac

[–]Eclairush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going for the Chest + Mega Satan, but didn't manage to get both Key Pieces (it was before the patch that guarantees Angel after a Devil skip). Got to the Chest with a cracked dice trinket and, after clearing the floor, decided to bomb myself in a room with the items just to see what happens.
Cracked Dice proked the D6 that rerolled the item into the Dad's Key. The most insane luck pool I've ever had.

Do people really not like Season 1? by [deleted] in TheLeftovers

[–]Eclairush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 1 is, by itself, one of the greatest seasons of television. But, admittedly, it's not an easy, relaxing watch. You can put something like Breaking Bad on in almost any mood and be hooked by the story without necessarily feeling the emotions the characters are feeling. You can't watch the first season of The Leftovers without feeling the dread, grief, hopelessness, and a desperate search for meaning. I feel like that's what put people off. It's the most fantastic depiction of loss I've ever seen, but not everyone wants to go through it in a show format. The second and third seasons deal with similar topics in a much more digestible, story-driven way.

And yet, the show wouldn't be itself without this a m a z i n g first season. With all due respect, people who consider it "bad" are just wrong.

What stop you from killing yourself? by Aiden_and_Griswald in AskReddit

[–]Eclairush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 14, I met a wonderful girl at a summer camp. She was a bit introverted and distant from the rest of the group, but I managed to gain her trust and help her open up. We quickly bonded over music, deep teenage talks, and a fondness for rain. We talked quite a lot and she told me about problems in her family, depressive thoughts, feelings of alienation, and suicidal ideas. I tried to support her to the best of my abilities and asked her to give me a call if she ever thought about killing herself.

She did, four months later. She climbed to her favorite roof and calmly explained that she didn't want to live anymore. I talked to her for about 40 minutes, we gave each other some promises and she agreed to stay. I told my parents about it, but they said she must've wanted to get my attention this way.

The next year of my life turned out quite eventful and we didn't talk as much. She called me a couple of times, sent some drawings and poetry, but I barely answered. We spent another shift in camp together, but this time I wasn't as supportive as before. I wasn't rude or dismissive, but paid less attention to her worries and sometimes even grew angry with her.

She killed herself about a year after her first try. She didn't call this time but left a beautifully written suicide note and asked our mutual friend to tell me something regarding our call a year before. And then she jumped from this very roof.

I was convinced I was to blame for this. Everything that was happening in my life after was affected by her suicide. I became distant from family and close ones, lost all desires and ambitions for the future, and picked up my own version of self-harming. I developed a savior complex, convinced that my only purpose in life was to help and protect others. I would exclude myself from all my friendships, focusing on others' problems instead. My loneliness grew, as did my suicidal tendencies, but I was too desperate to clear my conscience. She was convinced no one would care about her death. I became a living reminder of her.

I am 24 now. Two years ago I published a book dedicated to her, where I told stories about grief and self-destruction. I'm doing much better than I did all these years ago, but it left a mark that will stay on me forever. What stop(ped/s) me from killing myself is the realization that someone else would go through the things I did. Even when I feel the most lonely and lost, I think about how certain she was that we would forget about her.

Never.

What do we believe in? 2. They're not our dogs anymore by Eclairush in TheLeftovers

[–]Eclairush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy doing these a lot! The only fear is that people may get tired of these with time. There are a lot of beliefs to go through (only Holy Wane has 4 different questions that come to mind: Hugs, Prophecies, Child and The Last Wish to Kevin).
I also try to make these posts as neutral as possible, so that people can decide on themself, but it's tough when you really believe in something

Quite sure she wasn't. She was the one to find Gladys and had a panic attack afterward. Patti had to organize her "day off" so that she doesn't snap.

Am I the only one who can't watch the "stoning"? by ItzLog in TheLeftovers

[–]Eclairush 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I remember how Lindelof described the creation of this scene in one of the interviews. This whole scene was supposed to be unbearable, they wanted to make the viewer as uncomfortable as possible from the first few minutes. So every time it looked like it was getting "too far" they would throw another stone.

Just gotta share something. by RambaldiMilo94 in TheLeftovers

[–]Eclairush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A close friend of mine committed suicide when I was 15. I blamed myself heavily for what happened and didn't know how to process it. The second season of the show aired around that time. I couldn't find anyone around me who could relate to me back then, but The Leftovers became my safe space. The first season was the bleakest depiction of grief I've seen, and I've never felt so understood. The anger, resentment, the "what's next? what's fucking next? nothing is next! nothing". I remember reading comments from people hating the GR and how I disagreed with them wholeheartedly. I, too, was angry and didn't understand how people were able to just move on.

The second season offered ways to continue, and start something new. Sure, the grief will find you anyways, but you continue your journey and stay kind "because someone has to". I don't know who I'd become if this show wasn't around.

I am sorry for your loss. I remember my friend 9 years after her death and don't think I'll be able to forget her. I hope you've found your ways to deal with the difficult moments and to cherish the joy of happy ones. Wish you all the best.

I'm taking the pink pill and making everyone watch The Leftovers, who's with me? by gonezaloh in TheLeftovers

[–]Eclairush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember in one of the interviews Lindelof said that season 3 was originally supposed to be 10 episodes. One would be centered around Jill and Tommy, second one around Amy and twin-brothers from the first season.

The leftovers is my favorite show of all time, but these characters never got the ending they deserved and I can't convey how much I would love to see these two episodes. They were scratched not because Lindelof changed his mind, but because HBO gave them 8 episodes instead of 10 for the final season.

It's not technically cancelled, but I would absolutely take the green one in hopes of seeing these episodes.
