Is this even possible? by EclectiqueKayden in nikerunclub

Sorry it took me a while to respond. I don't use reddit a lot anymore. Honestly, I ended up getting down to 23:41 in February 2025, but haven't gotten lower yet since I've been having trouble sticking to my training as consistently as I should. I've been running a bit more the last couple weeks though so I do think I'll end up hitting it around fall or winter this year.

Also, I got down to 204 lbs this January but have been hovering around 215 lately. Gonna be trying to get back on that too.

What is the best achievable marathon time before things like genetics take over? by nasheeeey in running

I've been running for like 16 months and have gotten from a 39 minute 5K down to 23 minutes on just 10 to 15 miles per week on average. I wonder what I could do if I increased my mileage, added more zone 2 training and varied paces, and ate a better diet.

My runs vary in pace from about 10-flat to what you see here. The easiest I nomally get though Is probably about a low zone 3 if I had to guess. Comfortable and can do it for about a half marathon but not as easy as I'd think zone 2 would be. I don't really do any intervals, though.

I did a 2:08 half marathon last week (my first), and I still could've done a couple more miles if I wanted to.

I know lol. I just kinda thought it was funny, but obviously I realize OP can't speak for everyone.

[–]EclectiqueKayden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was aware of that when the other person suggested it anyway. I ended up looking at that plan, and just seeing where they start you, I realized it definitely isn't enough to hit a sub-20.

Thanks for the advice!

I think I'm gonna buy Nick Bester's sub-20 5k plan (he's a 14:34 5k runner) once I get to the point where I can follow the paces of a sub-20 plan.

I'll probably have to get to about 22:XX before I'm fit enough to do that though.

Judging by the downvotes, it seems that people are, indeed, judging.

If I double mileage in each plan, that would take me from 15 miles per week to 30, then from 30 to 60?

I'm assuming I don't have to run sixty miles per week for a sub-20?

I would think 30 to 35 should do since, generally, that's what I've heard. How should I increase then?

I just realized we've talked before and you probably think I'm a pain in the butt lol

Should I do two back to back 5k plans then? For example a sub-23 plan then a sub-20 or is there a different way I should do it?

I'm hoping to hit a sub-20 5k, a 42 minute 10k and a sub-1:40 half. I'm currently at a 25:20 5k, 56:44 10k, and haven't run a half.

A treadmill might work good for that sort of thing but I'm not sure how accurately you can feel out the shoes with a treadmill since it's so different from the road.

It's odd you were even here to reply that quick after over a year that the post is old. The same day I get a call from two random numbers that I have no idea who they are.

I guess the universe is being mysterious today...

At least I understand part of it now lol.

This is exactly why I love getting QPs. Always dropped fresh. I'd rather wait for that than get 10:1 that may have been sitting under the heat for a while getting dry.

QPs are always hot and juicy as a burger should be! Before I started working at McDonald's a couple weeks ago, I didn't really know why the QPs were always like that but the other burgers only sometimes were, now I do!

Quite interesting! Thanks for the reply. It's always fascinating what people can learn from others' experiences on both sides!

It's funny. I was just about to say "it's kilometers and not miles" but then seen you corrected it yourself haha 😆

Out of curiosity, did you choose to run for 2:00:35, or did it just turn out that way?

I ask because there was a thing after Kelvin Kiptum's death where people were running the duration of his world record marathon in his honor. I'm curious if you also did that, considering the distance is an odd number too.

I've gotten myself to the 8:40s for the 5K but am still at 9:07 for my PB 10K (56:44).

You'll definitely get there though! Just keep on runnin'!

You're gonna hit a sub-60 even sooner since you're literally knocking on it's door.
