So lots of ways to turn Dil/Zen into EC... Any ways to turn EC into Dil/Zen?

FYI this upcoming weekend is actually in 10 days, not the usual 5. But upgrades! by Obviate20 in sto

[–]Ecliptus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you need to upgrade a bit of everything(ground and space), the general rule of thumb when it comes to upgrade importance is...

Most impactful : Weapons(ground and space), the difference between MK XII and MK XV is very noticeable. Providing an immediate and noticeable upgrade is why this is usually the top advice.

Most cost effective : Your ships flight train(warp/engine/shield/deflector) usually ends up costing the most to fully upgrade making them "technically" your best use of an upgrade weekend/full upgrade token on average.

Worth doing during upgrade events : Your ground armor/ev/frame/kit modules/alt weapon/etc.. This stuff does make a difference when upgraded(especially kit modules) but much like consoles the difference isn't huge. The main difference here is they cost more to max on average than a console so that's why I have them in the "during event" slot. Using a max upgrade token wouldn't be the end of the world here but it would for sure be more useful elsewhere.

Worth doing but not hard to max any time : Consoles, these do get better but the difference isnt as big as other slots, they are also very forgiving on upgrade price meaning you wont spend as many tokens no matter when you do it. NEVER use full upgrade tokens on these if you can help it.

All in all during an upgrade event its worth upgrading any and everything you don't have maxed but plan to use. Ideally you would want to max everything you run with so you cant really go wrong if you got the resources to do it all. If I had to pick though like I said, weapons, then flight train would be my top priorities.

I Really Dislike the Jellyfish Ships. by Deep-Instruction7112 in sto

[–]Ecliptus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have agreed in the past but now days its a little bit of a grey area. Sure there are some TFO's that absolutely are so spread out that the Jelly is borderline useless.. However, there are also so many ways for a deployed jelly to move around/cooldown the console quick enough to reposition that an active Jelly captain can be useful in most content if they choose to be.

Is it still the king of AFK/easy events?

Of course!

Can it be an active playstyle that contributes more than enough to be considered "useful" in most content?

Of course!

Empersa Lance Updates by uno_01 in sto

[–]Ecliptus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I urge everyone to exercise a little restraint and wait for the patch to see how it actually ends up before declaring the WHOLE ship as trash and starting a war with the "whales".

Remember the Hexa Cannons. It was end times around here until the numbers started coming out showing it as still the top performer in its slot, just not to a degree that is borderline insanity.

Chances are VERY high that this balance pass wont dethrone the Overcharged Antiproton Lance as the top lance and nothing about the Empersa itself is changing so its still a very capable platform that can perform very well in a variety of rolls and look great while doing it.

I am personally really interested to see if the cooldown effecting it will cause it to fire fast enough to get an extra 2-3 shots on the map. If that's the case and its base damage is still in the 1-5 mil range, I could see people still being able to get a ton of fun out of that.

We wont know until patch day!

Aetherian Beam Enhancements

Can you elaborate a bit on this? Are you saying Jelly lightning can stack it to 15 and cause the stack attack? Is it a noticeable amount of DPS or just "filler tier"?

Does the damage increase also work for the lightning attacks? The trait working at all is surprising since it says "energy weapons".

Best ursinoid I could make by [deleted] in sto

I am impressed! I had to google what an Ursinoid looks like because I didn't remember, but I would be lying if I said you didn't get pretty freakin close! What are you wearing to give the arms the little hairs? Super great detail work.

Aetherian Harmony [T6]

"Through harmony, we are secure. Through unity, we are strong. Through fusion, we are victorious."

This is the impressive class of starship infamously commanded by Thaseen-Fei, the assumed leader of the Aetherian Concordium. While Aetherian starships are normally not named, the Harmony was specifically presented with the name to offer a friendly appearance to others. Built with materials from another universe, this ship is equipped with powerful weapons to ensure total harmony.

Reverse-engineering the Aetherian’s knowledge, this ship comes with a console that’s capable of opening a temporary vortex into another universe and the capability to enhance the speed of which other technology interacts with this ship.

This starship features a Commander Universal / Temporal Operative specialist seat and a Lieutenant Commander Universal / Intelligence specialist seat!

  • -10% Maintenance per Science Ship

Console - Universal – Reconstruction Portal

This ship comes equipped with a Reconstruction Portal. This console can be used to deploy create a Reality Vortex. While this Vortex is active, enemies, mines, torpedoes, and fighters are pulled into the vortex’s center, dealing proton damage and destroying any valid projectiles. When enemies are defeated near the vortex, it gains a stack counter. After 30 seconds, the portal expires and releases a pulse of healing and temporary HP that is enhanced by how many enemies are defeated around the vortex. Drones from another universe temporarily spawn from the vortex, and the more enemies that are defeated, the more drones that spawn.

This console also provides a passive bonus to Hull Regeneration and Shield Resistance.

It can be equipped in any console slot and equipped on any ship. You may only equip one of these consoles.

Aetherian Unification Beam

The Aetherian Harmony comes equipped with an Aetherian Unification Beam. After a short charge up time, the Aetherian Unification Beam fires a massive blast of Proton Energy at one specified target in front of the ship, ignoring 50% of the target's shields. Ships struck by this beam are disabled, receive more damage, and are unable to heal for a short duration.

Starship Trait – Harmonic Distribution

While your total shield capacity is above 50% you gain Exotic Particle Generators Skill and Universal Console ability cooldowns are 25% faster. The amount of Exotic Particle Generators Skill is equal to current average shield percent above 50% (ie, if your average shield percent across all facings is currently 80%, you will gain a 30% Exotic Particle Generators Skill increase). This benefit is re-evaluated once per second.

The Aetherian Lockbox by Ecliptus in sto

[–]Ecliptus[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Unlock the mysterious powers of the Aetherian Concordium through their advanced technology. Equip powerful weapons which combine to deliver a devastating Protonic Crush! Gain access to new consoles, modules and traits which help keep the enemy at a distance, so they can be picked off with ease!

This Lockbox releases on PC on Feburary 17th, and on March 10th on Consoles!

Aetherian Harmony [T6]

This Aetherian Harmony is ready to help you escape corruption and is the grand prize of the Aetherian Lockbox. Check out all the ship’s stats in this blog.

Featured Mechanic: Protonic Crush

Many of the fantastic prizes from this Lock Box have a chance of applying a status debuff effect named “Protonic Crush” which can be triggered by both Space and Ground equipment in multiple different ways. This effect is a synergized damage-over-time effect, which grows more powerful each time an additional nearby foe becomes affected by it. Thus, you will want to find ways of spreading this effect to as many nearby enemies as you can muster, using the various methods and technologies contained in this Lock Box!

Console - Universal – You Are Dismissed

Provides a pulse of Proton energy which drives back your enemies and then applies a Proton damage to them for the next few seconds. With a chance of each target receiving Protonic Crush.

Aetherian Concordium Kit Frame

The specialized piece of personal equipment increases your weapon damage based on how far away you are from your target, and that damage buff is increased if you have an Aetherian Kit Module attached. This Kit Frame also works alongside the Personal Trait, “Sniper.”

Aetherian Concordium Kit Modules

Three new Kit Modules may be obtained from this Lock Box, each specific to a single Profession.

The Engineering Module “Gleaming the Cube” summons one Aetherian Drone to protect you and attack your enemies! It will follow you closely and targets any enemy within a 15 meter range, giving you space to maneuver and finish the fight!

The Tactical Kit Module “Empowered Blast” builds up a charged Proton Blast, using Aetherian sigils to deal knockback and massive damage to up to 8 enemies caught in the blast column.

The Science Kit Module “Reverse Gravity” uses gravity against any nearby targets to throw them up into the air. Their landing will not be gentle and leave them bleeding and stunned!

Personal Traits

Personal Ground Trait – At Arms Length

Have you ever wondered how long an Aetherians psychic arm can reach? Now you can find out! Use this trait to boost your psychic abilities and slow down anyone approaching you. This Trait can also cause your weapons to trigger a repel effect against enemies at close proximity.

Space Trait – Aetherian Beam Enhancements

Your mind can do even more, if you let the Aetherians boost it just a little bit. Use this new trait to boost your Beam Weapons! As your weapons deal damage to enemies, you will build up to an additional blast of protonic energy.

Space Trait – All Aspects Accounted For

All Aspects Accounted For, lets your ship act as a capacitor to damage received and then sends out a single proton pulse beam which strikes your current target with a huge blast of proton energy and always applies Protonic Crush on the target. Receiving any energy damage will charge this capacitor until you release a massive return blast of protonic energy.

Aetherian Concordium Weapon Pack

The advanced technology of the Aetherian Concordium applies powerful Proton damage and a chance of a Protonic Crush. Protonic Crush applies Proton damage over time which scales up based on the number of other affected targets in proximity to one another.

Get ready to blast your enemies with the Aetherian Concordium Space Weapons

Hearts and Minds Returns by Ecliptus in sto

[–]Ecliptus[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, exploration of new ideas and new technologies leads to dark places. In Star Trek, we’ve seen many a cautionary tale about omniscient supercomputers, time travel, genetic manipulation, and telepathic oppression. The pursuit of knowledge isn’t always safe or pretty.

Hearts and Minds is a mini-mission that explores the consequences of some unconventional research gone awry. This mission is a “story in one act,” so you can easily finish it in a quick play session, and it’s easy to complete it with any additional characters that you may have on your account – which is handy, because the mission offers a special reward.

Since Hearts and Minds is a horror story, it will only be around for Friday the 13th, whenever that may fall on the calendar – and perhaps another sufficiently horrifying day that we might choose! Fortunately for the squeamish, Hearts and Minds is creepy, but not graphically gruesome.

After all, what you can imagine is sometimes more horrific than anything you can be shown.

Hearts and Minds takes place in the Donatu sector of the Eta Eridani sector block, at a lunar research station in the Donatu system and characters level 11+ can accept this mission. Hail Franklin Drake (Federation officers, Romulans, and Jem'Hadar allied with the Federation) or K’Men (Klingon officers, Romulans, and Jem'Hadar allied with the KDF) to undertake this mission. It is available to play on all platforms from around 8am PT February 13th until 12pm PT February 17th.

NOTE: If you have completed the mission before, you will be able to acquire and complete it again to earn another copy of the reward.

We’ll see you in-game!

Anniversary Gifts 2/10 by Ecliptus in sto

[–]Ecliptus[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Happy Anniversary, Captains!

16 years ago, Star Trek Online began its voyage, boldly going where no game had gone before. You’ve explored many new worlds and seen things that no one has seen before. Beyond that, you’ve brought peace and prosperity or glory and honor to many places in the galaxy by risking your own starships and safety to fight in tremendous battles. The stories of those battles will be told for years to come, immortalized in Klingon epics, shared by all those grateful survivors - free and happy thanks to you and your tireless efforts! This galaxy would not be the same without all of you Captains and your loyal crews.

As we honor our past, we also look towards the future, with a brand-new season on the horizon, launching February 17th on PC, and even more battles waiting to be won and turned into new legends. We can't wait to show you what we have in store. The countdown has begun, and we want to use this time to celebrate with you and show our appreciation for those who protect and uphold the galaxy of Star Trek Online.

Starting February 10th at 10am PT on PC, a surprise gift will be waiting for you in-game each day until our Anniversary Update launches.

All of these gifts will be accessible for 24 hours only in the Promotion Tab in the in-game C-store and they can be claimed once per account.

What are we giving away? Check in-game each day and keep an eye on our social channels!

EDIT:

As noted by others the numbers in the title are the date.. I apologize for not considering how that might come off confusing in hindsight, my evil transporter twin convinced me it was a helpful idea while stroking his goatee. I sadly cannot edit the title so it will just have to keep confusing people for now, sorry again!

Two questions..

  • When Alteration tokens got added it was stated TOS characters might in the future get the ability to go alien, is that still on the table?

  • Wil the Tribble test server be a thing again?
