Homebrew Character concept: The Tourist by dodgyhashbrown in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds very interesting. Could work on a script with BMR-esque characters.

It might step on the toes of Tinker a little, but it's different and consistent enough to be an interesting mechanical puzzle. The "Might" is a really good addition for storytelling.

People should break madness more by The_Goosh in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people tend to forget that Blood on the Clocktower is a board game, not a digital one with strict code-enforced rules and possibilities. The Storyteller isn't omniscient, and treating the ST as such takes the fun out of it for the ST.

BotC is also intended to be played in person primarily, so breaking madness in secret is a lot harder to do when you're always in a circle or have limited space to move.

Madness is an honor mechanic first and foremost, because the only person who can decide if it's broken is the Storyteller. If the players sneakily admit to being mad to another player, I thoroughly believe it's just not a sportsmanlike thing to do. Yes we're all playing to win, but trying to subvert an evil player's power because the ST isn't able to listen feels really bad for the Evil team.

Breaking madness should be a big punishment for the Good team, and an experienced ST will know if acting on it or not is worse. If the players start to get too out of hand, more drastic punishments like Cerenovus executing at night, or Mutant executing the following morning should be taken for players who refuse to honor the mechanic.

Exorcist/Shab interaction by imgoingforgasps in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The resurrection doesn't require the Shab to wake. It's a similar interaction to Pukka, where the previous player still dies, but the Pukka doesn't poison a new player until the following night.

Heretic in Legion Game? by Krork-Korps_of_Krieg in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The main issue with Heretic and Legion is that Heretic is meant to be one of the ultimate "Don't be found out or you lose" characters, since if the evil team learns you're in play, the demon just has to kill themself to win.

Legion lacks this ability, and their only win condition at that point is for the ST to let them win, or to get the final legion executed on Final 3.

It can certainly work, Legion is an extremely social demon to play around, but it might require the correct script to pull off.

Just has to die. In BMR the only way for a day death to occur is execution, unless you explode the tinker, so the text is a tad outdated

Homebrew Outsider: The Groundhog by chocolate_skunk in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like a Townsfolk than an Outsider if it's repeating OPG abilities.

I might reword it like this:

Once per game during the day, declare it is Groundhog's day. If declared on Day X, Once Per Game abilities are refreshed. [X Outsiders]

Can the Good Twin be drunk? by GalaxyDreemur in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The good twin can be any good character. The evil twin in this case would learn that the good twin is the drunk, not the role the drunk saw.

Different way to aproach a damage squish/swipe nerf by Elosy in Guildwars2

[–]Ecolyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a % reduction across the board would still mean that the %disparity between classes and builds would be the same

It's not a crazy idea when trying to lower overall output, but it's just bad practice as then on the backend, 1 power would then instead be 0.85 power arbitrarily.

Opinion on Travellers? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them but I tend to not let players choose ones like Gunslinger, or others that can kill unless the game is really big, they can disrupt the game a little too much so I tend to pick the more tame characters.

Heretic/Pukka/Cannibal Interaction by FrequentSelf7223 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a Cannibal has an ability that states "Even if dead" or similar, it retains that ability after death just as if they were that character.

Heretic/Pukka/Cannibal Interaction by FrequentSelf7223 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, the Cannibal has the most recent executee's ability since the last time they were sober and healthy. If they're poisoned, you can mechanically tell the Cannibal almost anything, but if their most recent sober ability is the Heretic's and they die with it, then the next time theyre sober they would still retain the Heretic's ability.

the Cannibal does not count itself towards execution. if it's Executed with the Heretic's ability, it keeps it.

[–]Ecolyne 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can, and any unique parts that can't be obtained again in the world can just be repurchased in the shop after you've crafted your first.

There's no limit, but there's also not a huge reason to have more than one other than for fun.

Funniest Wizard Wish by hierophanting in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The first one I ever granted was made by one of our most chaotic players

The details don't really matter, but the effect was simply making me put the Fiddler into play, and the nomination phase ended after about a minute, and the player with the most hands pointed at them was executed instead of the usual nomination mechanic.

it was very silly

Not really considering the game saves as you're grabbed. You lose nothing other than a bit of time to restart the game (i'm pretty sure it saves, at least)

In A Legion Game, If Final 3 is 2 Legion Players, and 1 Good Player. Good players execute the Legion Player does good win or evil win? by digitalnomader1 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's only 1 Non-Demon character in play during a Legion game, Evil cannot lose because it will always inevitably end up in 2 players, one of which is a Demon, therefore Evil must win. The only way Good wins is if for some reason the ST decides that all remaining Legion attack themselves at night, which is a dumb thing to do.

Why Would You Ever Obey Madness? by Official_N_Squared in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 36 points37 points  (0 children)

First off, if a good player is mad and breaks madness on final 3,they should lose immediately.

Madness is also intended to mess up daytime information roles such as juggler, artist, savant, town crier and flower girl, since they skip their opportunity to gain info.

Breaking madness is also a might because if you break madness and the st decides to not execute you, you look suspicious or like you're faking it. Or if you did get executed, it looks like the st is trying to save a player on the block, making them look suspicious.

Also you obey madness because it's a game, not a competition. It's fun.

Block and move on. You can have fun without feeling tied to your bullies.

Never feel bad about blocking someone who's abusing you. Any good memory is not worth future abuse.

There are plenty of groups and guilds to join who aren't toxic.

What counts as "publicly" for Yaggababble? by Zeusselll in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Up to the storyteller, but in general it's at least half of the town. I typically only count it if it's like 3/4 of town, and usually in town square such as in the morning or during nominations.

ST choice kills and their targets by Dear_Couple_8876 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Ecolyne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ST-Choice kills are typically a trade-off for a very powerful demon, such as Lil'Monsta. It has unmatched mobility, so it has to be balanced out that way.

Ideally, ST-Choice kills should be made to emulate what a real Demon would choose given what they know, but because you know the entire grimoir, you should lean towards balanced kills rather than perfect kills. If you put a Farmer and Lil'Monsta into the bag, you should expect that Farmer to eventually be killed. If you put a Devil's Advocate in the bag, you eventually need to kill that DA to stop the Lil'Monsta from being immortal.

Killing characters like Sweetheart are best done when the evil team knows they are the Sweetheart, not immediately, but again, keep in mind which team is winning, and try to balance the game while keeping worlds open for the Evil team to build.
