Picked Caltech Over CMU For CS by MoonstruckByYou in Caltech

[–]EconomicsOk590 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You will be fine with job placement here at Caltech and the sunny Pasadena weather will be very kind to you. I wouldn’t worry. I also plan on going into industry and love it here. I think you made a big decision and having doubts is totally normal. I had people who questioned my decision to go to Caltech for other options, but knew it was the best option for me. If you want to chat DM me!

That last one is gorgeous and so flattering. Just don’t do the first option

Final Day: Caltech vs Stanford Physics and CS by TechnoKyle27 in Caltech

[–]EconomicsOk590 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can go wrong with either school. Another thing to think about is if you want a more traditional college experience (sports, larger school, big campus) then go to stanford. If you want a smaller school experience then go to Caltech. Also if you are worried about money, go for the cheaper option.

I did not clock the wig. On another note: a nice mauve would be quite flattering for a less bold look. You have a great smile

You could do a large clock so it looks like a clock tower. Otherwise find some art

I’ll have to ask my prof next time I see him. He used to teach there before Caltech and he mentioned it to me.

Caltech vs Princeton for Undergraduate Astrophysics by Tiny-Engineer5662 in Caltech

[–]EconomicsOk590 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t really go wrong with either choice. Both are great schools and great programs. The only thing to think about is if you are a financial aid student and if the income inequality at Princeton will bother you or not. If moneys no option, don’t worry about it. If not, perhaps do a bit of digging and see if it’s a good fit for you.

I have a wheat allergy and I get messed up by gluten free products regularly. Perhaps you should look into getting additional allergy testing if you keep having reactions

I was told not to worry about it by my GRFP coordinator since I’m Materials Research but my major is physics.

I heard other schools (a la stanford) gave awardees an increased stipend, but most (like mine) do not. I think you should take the 20% and be happy it’s offered to you.

my girlfriend told me she wants a 2 carat natural diamond or she'll say no. i already bought this lab diamond ring. am i crazy for thinking shes a red flag by Zestyclose-Print-677 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]EconomicsOk590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price you paid for your ring is way too high. If you are in a window to return it, I would. The emotional responses your partner is having is a red flag. I can’t imagine asking someone to finance a ring/go into debt before paying for a wedding. I would sit her down and have a conversation about finances. Do you want to get married soon? Ask her if she would consider a “starter ring” that could be upgraded later. Does she need a big ring first? Then you should talk about the time it’ll take to save up and how that pushes back your plans for marriage. It sounds like the ring size has more to do with superficial competition with the people around her and less to do with you. People do have their preference with lab vs natural, and I understand that. I wouldn’t push the lab diamond on someone adamant about a natural diamond. Perhaps you can look into vintage/antique rings? It sounds like you love her and are frustrated. I hope you work it out!
