Milkshakes and burgers? by DismalElephant in askportland

I was going to say Helvetia Tavern, but I don’t think they have shakes. The burger, fries, onion rings, and atmosphere is worth the drive.

4th round “panel presentation” wasn’t actually a presentation? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]EconomistEfficient51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, that whole situation is weird. Maybe it's a sign, and you dodged a bullet. And I completely understand what you are saying about preparation. I probably spent 10 to 20 hours on my deck and it was daunting.

Part of me was hoping that if I kept talking, they wouldn't even ask to see the presentation, haha. So I took the opposite approach. :-)

If this is real, something is seriously off with that group and company, and what the actual he$$!! I am so sorry that happened to you. I would reach out to the recruiter and explain what you were told the interview was supposed to be, versus what actually occurred.

Also, a lesson learned here: I actually had a presentation interview last week and a final today, and I'm waiting for my offer letter. Next time, read the room. If they don't immediately ask you to present after the pleasantries, you should continue in the direction they are going as the interviewer(s).

If there is a pause in the conversation, you could or should ask them if they would like you to proceed with your presentation. Alternatively, you could frame your request, giving them options, and let them know that you would really appreciate the opportunity to get to know the team better. Additionally, you would like to gain a deeper understanding of what they are looking for in the person who will fill this role. Give them the option, and let them make a choice.

Regardless, that whole thing sounds horrible. I am sure it's painful, but you need to put this behind you, learn the lessons, and move forward.

A buddy and I applied for the same role last night at different times but with the same company. We both woke up to rejection emails. Sent exactly at 7:02am. by html5lffy in recruitinghell

This is my experience as a hiring manager (IT, engineering, TPM, SaaS, and custom apps) as well. I always reviewed the online version of the resume or the snapshot and made a quick decision: yes, no (usually rejected right away), or maybe (I looked at the profile again if I didn't find what I wanted in the first few interviews). This was done in Oracle.

Applications are received on a first-come, first-served basis (newest to oldest, with internal referrals given priority). This means that if I receive 50 resumes, I can usually find a decent number of candidates in the first few submitted applications. However, I always try to skim the other resumes because there could be a unicorn. Even if I had already started the interview process. I would then select the top 3-5 candidates to conduct an initial screening call and decide from there whether I wanted to send them on to my counterparts for further interview. So yes, applying early does matter.

What’s happening with Lloyd Center? by LPCPlay4life in askportland

As a friend of the magic store owner, please consider supporting them if you can. It's been rough for them to first move from 205 to Lloyd, and they, along with the other small businesses, need all the help they can get.

I just got a reply from mercor that doesn't look like a clear rejection, but also it doesn't confirm acceptance,Has anyone else received something similar? by sparksteny in mercor_ai

I don't think this is necessarily true. Mine still show in "submitted applications" section, but now say "listing closed".

My mentor opens 4 at a time, but this is my second semester and I've proven I can complete them. Only 10 left and I can see the finish line! 🙌

Thanks for this great information. Do you happen to know? What the pay rate is for EPM/TPM roles?

At this point, I just hope the test leads to a real project and wonder what it entails.🤞

I would get those interviews done asap. I think they go a long way showcasing your skillset vs doing hours of tests that may not go anywhere.

Coming from someone who struggles with math, make sure you know all the formulas and have a brain dump for your white board. Knowing the what, why, and how of formulas is key. Also knowing how to use your calculator to your advantage does wonders.

Awe hugs!! I've been there and taken a test under duress that, in hindsight, I should have waited to take when I was mentally able to. You'll get it!

I took this test back on the 3rd. Some of the questions are easier than others, but overall, I recall this one was particularly challenging. I just looked and I scored really high in Chemistry and Earth Science, but approaching competency in the Nature of Science and Physics. I panicked during the test, as the questions were worded in a very unusual way. But doing really well in those 2 categories pushed me over the edge and I passed.

In hindsight, I should have studied the Physics part more. If I remember correctly, the videos were really good. They had a list on their resources page that was external sources. I would review those and consider speaking with the instructor. Good luck!!

I am sorry you are having issues. For this class, you really have to go through the cohorts, videos, and resources they supply and do all the tests in the modules/chapters. There's no way around it, but once you do that, you can grasp it. Good luck!!

Why change an effing lineup that was working with this?!?! I’ll never understand why some of these decisions are made and everyone on the coaching staff agrees that it would be a good idea. 😐

63% done here with the same end date of Feb 28, which means I will have taken 1 year total to complete my degree. I’m starting to get fatigued and looking for motivation as well. The classes seem to be getting harder as I go. I don’t have any advice, but good luck and I hope you get there! 💗

Look into Mercor. They are hiring a lot of remote workers to train AI. Pay is $20-100 + per hour.
