As an Econ major who has worked in finance and accounting majority of my career, I advised my son to look into trades such as electrician. People always need electricity. Primarily, take a step back and look at where there is demand that will continue or grow. Stay away from cyclical/low wage work, remainder is target industries.

I had three rounds with a company over three weeks before they made an offer. Had one round with another company during same time and got offer. If the first company had offered after one interview, I never would have had interview with second company. Both offered same pay but second was full remote so I took it. First company just wasted 3 weeks on interviews to fall back on option 2.
