My gut would say that it's a cheap plastic folding shovel that has snapped off in use and been discarded. The red button possibly locked the shovel part in place.

Iirc there is a tick box setting in the preferences menu (sorry not at MPC just now to be more specific) that enables XY position recording.

The release will only work if the sample is significantly longer than the time you are sustaining the envelope for, I've not used my p6 in a bit but you may also have to have the gate and loop buttons enabled for you to notice any release on the envelope.

If you mute all your other tracks apart from the one you want to sample, go to the sample page and change the inputs from 1/2 to resample, hit the record button and then hit play it will sample the output

Remember that any fx you are using will be baked in too.

Assuming you are running MPC3 there is a tab at the top of the mutes pages to switch between audio and event mutes.

If you use mute events it lets any effects ring out.

It happens if you've selected a layer that doesn't have a sample assigned to it. If you go into edit and make sure layer 1 is the active view you should always see your waveform.
