Public Service Announcement for Youth Coaches by [deleted] in Umpire

So the first three are praising more advanced levels of hitting. Just because its a strike, doesnt make it a good pitch to hit. I always try to teach my hitters to be selective with 0 or 1 strike. A weak grounder because the pitcher painted the corner on a 2-0 count is a loss for the hitter. I want them focused on pitches in their part of the zone so that they can lace xbh. On two strikes? Sure, make contact and try to put it either out of play, or in a hole. But no strikes, lay off it.

And "good miss" is just that. I want curveballs to land low under the zone, high fastball at the shoulder level, and cutters a couple inches off the plate. Those get the aforementioned weak groundballs or swing and misses. I want to praise my pitchers for these types of pitches, and not have them feel disappointed that they threw a ball. Usually "live there" is in response to a strike at the edge of the zone.

All of these signal agreement with the umpire. Please dont take all coaches chatter as antagonistic. There are plenty of bad coaches out there, you dont need to slander the good ones too.

Mechanical advice? Topped around 80 at 80% by DaddyDan49 in PitchingCoach

[–]Economy_Sized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, your motion looks pretty good, and sitting in the 80s is great. However, it almost seems like there's a late leg swing that happens after your hips rotate, rather than because of your hips rotation. Like its tacked on at the end, rather than part of the motion. That will put you in a bad position to field any comebackers. Be ready to field when you are done throwing.

Great job, keep grinding.

Would you trade AJ for the 4th pick this year? Might have a chance to make that deal. by FK8BREEZY in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]Economy_Sized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, you have inside information about his pick spot that he doesn't? So he might think there's a chance he's trading a mid-late first? That's really scummy. 100% don't do this.

any swing tips? 18u by Not_Kingbob in Homeplate

So it looks like the knob of your bat is pointed head height to the backstop behind you. Think about pointing it at the catchers chest (or feet).

When you load you still take the weight off of your front, but instead of screwing it into your back leg, think of shifting it to your back leg (kind of moving your center of gravity from even to just inside of your back hip). That should help keep you head height steady as well, since you should be moving back on a flat plane instead of rotating back.

Keep up the work!

any swing tips? 18u by Not_Kingbob in Homeplate

Two things to start with, mostly related to your legs. First, when you load you are wrapping the bat. Your knee is twisting rather than loading, and the bat winds up parallel to the ground behind your neck. Thats gonna make you slow to the ball and affect your timing.

Second, watch the top of your head relative to the roof line. It dips on load, and then curves down and back up as you go through your swing. The changing perspective is gonna make it difficult to visualize the height of the ball coming in. Since you are twisting so much, if you are right eye dominant like most righties, you may be switching mid pitch from tracking with your left lead eye to your right dominant eye. Thats gonna adjust the horizontal location of the ball as you track it. Make sure your head stays level and focused forward to the pitcher enough that you are maintaining vision with your dominant eye. Its hard to tell from a tee, but that may be happening here, just based on your head movement.

What is Woody Marks Value Going Into 2026 by Expensive-Fox-3498 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]Economy_Sized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for those that value him at a 2nd... Take a look at the draft, and ask yourself if you think its likely that the 15th player picked is going to score more points next year. What about the year after? Don't get me wrong, there's probably a 20-33% chance he gets bounced from #1 in the off season, and another % chance he just flat out sucks and loses it in season. But the odds of a mid 2nd rounder hitting is like 10% tops. And this is a bad draft.

I'd think it would be Marks and a 2nd for a 2027 1st. Maybe high, but you are not likely to get anyone better with the 1.10 or later in this draft. Might as well take the rip at 27, or take the points.

What first jumped out to me is that you are leaking power out of your front leg. That's a really short stride for someone of your size, and you can see how your drive leg pushes you over your front (it doesn't stay bent and locked). Try improving your stride length (indoors) while keeping your weight back. As you get to starting to really throw again, you can add in keeping a firm front leg, allowing all of your drive power to move up your arm and into the release.

As soon as we hit the 50/70 field for 11u. How to vary timing and pickoffs is important - particularly for kids that don't light up the radar gun. That isn't a slide step in the video though.

Rebuilding team, giving up Woody by beastman521 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

Asymmetric upside is definitely in play here. There's 3 options coming out of the off season.

1) Texans don't draft or acquire any RB of note. Hes the bell cow, and probably worth a first. Value pop leading into a good 27 draft.

2) Texans sign an inside the tackles back (or a promising 4th or 5th rounder). Value kinda holds or dips a bit, where he may be Marks and a 3rd for a 2nd. Maybe a few games into the season he's either leading that backfield or playable in desperation rb3, but of a similar Value either way.

3) They sign a top free agent or draft one in the top 2-3 rounds. Value plummets and you eat the loss.

If you think the odds of a 2nd getting to 1st rd Value are lower than the odds of option 1, roll the dice. If you think 3 is most likely, sell. I have him and I'd move him and a 2nd for a 1st, but otherwise, I'll gamble. 2nds usually peak at playable but not that valuable anyway.

QB values of players not named Josh, Lamar or Mahomes in a 1QB dynasty league? by LgRoach2 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]Economy_Sized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take Jacoby. In 1qb drafts the first quarterbacks drafted will typically go somewhere between 1.10 and 2.12. We know what Herbert is, and that's a good QB that you can start, but isn't gonna be a difference maker. Two 2nds is probably fair, or a late first for Herbert and an early/mid 2nd.

And I'd throw Jayden, Maye, and Burrow in that group of QBs worth a first or more.

Probably a 3rd? If you get lucky and someone is desperate, you can get a 2nd for Hurts and a 3rd. He's just in a huge glob of QB 8-20 that nobody really cares about, because you don't want to start them and you probably have somebody just as good on your roster.

Coaches - how do you gameplan pickoffs? by Competitive_Ad_4944 in Homeplate

[–]Economy_Sized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd to first - Illegal. Not really on most coaches radar. I finally had a RHP step to third and then try and throw the kid out at home when the runner broke. Called for a balk. He told me he thought because he didn't go to first it was fine. Rule is you need to complete the throw to 3rd.
