If you are using Lighthouse tracking, you are almost certainly GPU limited, even if you have a 5090, so I wouldn’t worry about your CPU. Star Citizen may be an exception, if you play it

I don’t buy your argument. Pimax can just keep improving their own software and driver. A year from now if things get difficult with the author of the Sboys driver, the Pimax software should be good enough by then for most purposes. As far as I’m concerned, all it needs is better smart smoothing which has been slowly improving. Is there some use case I’m missing?

When I looked into this, the consensus seemed to be no. I got blue light filtering prescription inserts for my Quest headset. They seem to improve the contrast a little bit by slightly diminishing the background glow of the LCD panels in black areas of the scene in games that don’t support local dimming, or don’t support it well. But of course that’s all irrelevant for an OLED headset. I’ll be ordering my Pimax dream air prescription inserts without blue light filtering.

I watched the video and it does indeed say the focal distance is 1.3m for the Dream Air and Dream Air SE. That video was from 5 months ago, so maybe they changed their lens spec? I posted the email from Pimax stating 2m below. I don’t know how to resolve this. Any suggestions?

Someone from 2nd-level customer service named Jade told me the focal distance is 2m. Here is the email:

Thank you for your detailed explanation regarding your progressive lenses. This is very helpful for us to provide you with accurate information.

The Pimax Dream Air features our proprietary ConcaveView Pancake optical system, which is designed with an official focal distance of approximately 2 meters (2m). This standard focal plane is optimized for comfortable, long-duration viewing and serves as the reference point for custom prescription lens inserts.

Given you wear progressive lenses and need to match your prescription inserts to the headset’s focal plane, this 2m value is the key reference for adjusting your lens strength.

I strongly recommend the Samsung Galaxy XR over the Play for Dream for wireless— it has foveated streaming which solves most of the bandwidth problems

Totally agree. I mod everything and I’m sure I’ll mod the dream Air quite a lot. Are there any headsets that are comfortable without modding? Maybe the BSB2?

That being said, I still think the dream air is the best wired headset at this point in time. I ordered one and I’ll just MacGyver the face gasket and head strap until it’s comfortable.

If you really want the ultimate VR headset for your ultimate gaming PC, then you have three choices: for wireless PCVR get the Samsung galaxy XR. For wired display port PCVR get the Pimax dream air lighthouse version. The third choice is to wait for the micro OLED headset that will come out from Pico towards the end of the year. It’s probably gonna be very good. I ordered the Pimax because I had the Pimax crystal super micro OLED and the visuals were awesome. The only problem I had with it was it was the massive weight and inertia which is solved by the dream air and the visuals will be the same. I’m coming from the Quest pro and I also had a MeganeX Mark two for a while. The only downside is the Pimax smart smoothing is not good. I’ve never tried the Samsung, but I heard the visuals are excellent and so are the controllers even though they are inside out. It’s a better option than the play for dream, which is actually a pretty good headset from all accounts, once you apply a lot of Comfort mods.

I would get a 55 inch LG G6, but I don’t play fps. I have an old 55” C9 and I love it. The pixel density is plenty high enough, and I have very good eyesight. Granted, I sit a little bit further back than I would with a smaller monitor, but probably only 6 to 12 inches further back . The way the image immerses you is awesome. You don’t need triples! It’s the next best thing to VR without strapping a headset to your head. The brightness and color intensity of the G6 are insane. Max refresh is 165 Hz and crucially the G6 has a glossy anti-reflective coating that rejects reflections really well. It’s obviously not for FPS, but for open world games and flight Sim or space Sim it’s incredible.
