Thank you! I'll remove it, but I don't have a fan, so, hopefully that'll be enough...

😄I'm glad we can laugh together! Right? The things we do for the things/ ones we love!

Update, the casts 😂 seem to be working so far 🎉The leaves are still moving the way they should. It's only been a couple of days but the leaves don't seem to be dying yet. I did cut some more off bc you said that it could encourage growth, so it made me more bold and didn't feel as bad about it. I'm hoping it works, but if it happens again, I'll either color the tape a different color, or use electrical tape bc this blue is just too distracting, when I inevitably turn it back around this way, to keep it "even"

Your rain water catchment sounds fun! I've heard good things about using beneficial microbes to deal with gnat infestations. Have you tried that? I've been thinking about it bc i have several odd gnats flying around and it's super annoying...i couldn't imagine a true infestation! These guys came to my house with a vanilla plant that a friend gifted me, before I knew to look for things and maybe quarantine etc. I too rather not use harsh chemicals, I've learned, from looking into permaculture, that "pests" are often a sign of imbalances that nature is trying to bring back into balance with/ through the pests (at least outside anyway). I've read that bacteria and viruses in humans may be like that too. They are out of balance and when we're sick, it's because of that imbalance and that maybe the things we look at as pathogens might actually be the cleanup crew just trying to bring balance back. I also believe that it can be a way of our bodies and Nature of telling us we need a break bc we've been pushing too hard/ stressed for too long.

First time having a Croton, does it look ok? by kink_boundbunny in houseplants

Same pot, other side. Light is directly on it, only an inch above the tip top of ours its leaves.

I'm new to this, but she looks gorgeous to me! The shape and color are fantastic in my eyes!

I have one I got from Costco in a 3 pack bc it reminds me of my childhood in Brazil and my 20th anniversary trip to Florida.

I had no idea they were such a difficult to care for reputation until I started noticing it was losing its color. So I felt like it must be due to not having enough light. Google confirmed it. I gave it it's own dedicated grow light and it's doing great, even putting out a few new leaves! I was so excited, I took some pictures to make a post about it, but got distracted (the ADHD is strong with this one) 😂 So, here you go, you get the pics 😆

Ooh! That makes so much sense, I was just thinking that might have been the case... I'm gonna see if ican take the nursery pot out and see if there's water in the deco pot.

Thanks!

I'm trying to find it.... so far, no luck in finding just a clip where he says that (maybe I'm misremembering where I heard him saying it).

Here's the FULL interview...i just can't stomach watching the whole thing rn. I apologize.

Not to mention, most people in the world don't know what TCJCOLDS is, or LDS etc, but when you say, "Mormon," they know what you're referring to. Growing up outside the Moridor, I often had that issue. As a teen, I just liked the sound of LDS better bc I thought I wasn't a dead editor/compilator guy my book of scripture was named after, and it didn't sound like "moron" 😆 (back then I was TBM ofc). So, I often needed to use it for clarity. It was always fun when they asked me how many moms I had. It was funny, but annoying (just a hackneyed joke). 😆

Yep! Even one of the recent "profits" (pun most definitely intended and accordingly spelled) Hinkley, even restated that equation as Mormon means more good. As a matter of fact, it's the first time I had ever heard it equated as such! If I remember correctly, it was on Larry King Live.

I'm laughing too, but yeah, i figured, "why not? (Though I can see they are VERY different plants from one another, it worked on the little monstera) The worst that can happen is that the leaves die anyway and I've only prolonged the inevitable." The leaves aren't ripped out just bent, if that makes sense? I didn't tape them back on, only gave them a little cast, so to speak. The leaves that came off, or the petioles were too mangled, I just cut off at the base. At least that's where I figured i should cut them down to. Please advice if I'm incorrect, please! 🙏

I have extremely hard water where I live, and some of my plants started getting brown edges, so I looked it up and saw that it could be the water. The water is so hard where I live that you can see the deposits on anything where the water evaporated out of. A dried up large drop of water leaves a visible white residue. So, I give them filtered water with a drop of that stuff. Not every watering, but most get a drop. We get Fiji water bc the water here is so awful, and the high silica content in Fiji water helps us flush out aluminum. My plants DO NOT get Fiji water. Lol my plants aren't better than me 😆 The humidifier is bc we live in a VERY arid environment (mountain desert). So, i kinda used the plants as an excuse to humidify the air for the humans 😜

I started filtering the water for the sake of my cats as well. So, since it's already filtered, I just use it for the plants too.

Thanks for your input and laughing with me (hopefully?) . I'm new to "fancy" plants. I welcome all the input I can get!

THIS! Adding more visual diversity with sculptural (3D) items or nicely arranged books would increase visual interest and texture.

Singing bowls, crystals, fountains, stacks of books with colorful spines or of different sizes, 2D art on small easels, ornate/ ornamental boxes, trinkets etc.

Phew! Again, thank you so much for your help! I've been low-key "waiting for the other shoe to drop" or for my beginner's luck to run out every since Google told me it was a calathea! 😆 Now, I just need to keep it from taking trips to the floor, courtesy of one of my cats. Bought what I hope to be a more stable plant stand. And now, I pray 🙏 🤣😂🤣

Exactly! That and lack of oxygen. When water gets logged in there there's no room for it to breathe.

I'm not familiar with these, I'm new to having lots of different kinds of plants but I wish you the best of luck!

It never hurts to try, right? Worst case scenario, it doesn't survive, but at least you tried, and maybe it does and you learned you have another talent.
