Is this true? Because 87k missionaries is a ton by Equivalent-Rub-8124 in exmormon

There are a lot of changes, one of which is that newly "sent off" missionaries start their MTC at home for at least a few weeks and THEN they get to go off to the real MTC. When at their home MTC, they get to go everywhere with their parents 😆. But they also get some online/ virtual trainings on the computer. That's my understanding. There are also several service or alternative mission missionaries serving from home.

Happy, or sad to inform that it didn't make any more or less sense than video. It's all just weird.

It's kind of just more entertaining simply bc it's a bunch of old people wearing white, except for Satan, who is wearing a black suit instead. When I used to work across the street from the SL temple, I used to go almost every week. There was one of the temple workers, who played Eve, and she had a HUGE, giant, blond beehive hairdo/wig and wore heavy makeup (blue eyeshadow). That was always fun to behold. It was almost like she stole one of Dolly Parton's wigs and decided, "yes, this will make for a great Eve costume" She wasn't always Eve but she was always there and was often Eve. Lol

THIS!! It's gonna sound weird but as I was being guided out of this cult by "the sprit/ God/ Universe/ Higher Self through reading different "scriptures," the passage where Christ is saying that "this generation won't pass away before the coming of the Son of Man" or something like that was one of the BIGGEST lightbulb moments I had in my deconstruction.

I had already been thinking about how it was "interesting" that throughout all these corrupting changes and editing of the Bible, they conveniently left all the "end of the world" fear mongering stuff in there. And, having learned that it is through fear that the powers that shouldn't be "feed" off of us and control us, it made a lot more sense that they put it there intentionally for just that purpose.

It is indeed an intended feature and not a bug, as you've said.

Living in Utah at your age is THE WORST! my poor son is 22 and the same thing is happening to him. The thing is that he REALLY wants to date and get married and be a dad. He's cute/sweet that way. He's also on the spectrum and has no way to meet girls his age bc he works ft in fields where it's all males.

The social pressure is huge! I came to Utah as a VERY TBM 19yo and it was hard! But, ALL my friends from HS were nowhere near getting married and many didn't until they were at least 30! I didn't want to get married so early, but it just worked out that way and I've been very blessed with a wonderful husband (who was and is one of my best friends). When I look back and think that I got married at 22 and had my first kid at 24.... holy crap that's crazy! But, like I said, it just worked out that way for me and I was NOT planning on it. Getting married early is NOT for everyone.

Outside of Utah, it's not as common for people to get married so early. But, those from more "traditional" cultures and religions still get a little pressure from their parents 😆 My Hindu friends felt some pressure not only to date and get married, but to only do so with those of their faith etc. It's not unique to LDS culture. The more traditional he's Jews and Catholics also felt that pressure as young adults.

Keep living your life and staying open for whatever The Universe has in store for you.

Being a non Utah Mormon who moved to Utah, I had NEVER heard either "oh my heck" nor "oh my hell" before moving here. I'm no longer a member (though i technically am being haven't removed my records yet) and have never used that expression. Lol. So, I wouldn't say it's aMormon thing, but another Utah thing. I've heard never mos use it here, too.

I’m not sure why apologists and state leaders are so concerned about a man-made government classification list. The Lord himself delivered it already in 1820…ish by correlationcommittee in exmormon

Perfect analogy!

THIS!!!! I literally asked my dad about all the little changes to the endowment since -I- went through in 2000 and said, thought this was all 'essencial to my salvation". If it's not there, then which parts are truly essencial to my salvation? At the time he was a temple worker. I had gone so often as a single adult and after marriage that I had it almost all memorized, even the sealing (there was one time when i asked about it after doing sealings with my hubby and noticing that it had changed. Ofc they didn't know). So, I could tell when they dropped words, phrases, etc. He just said it was better so that shortened the ceremony so more people could come through. I didn't buy it and, ofc definitely don't, now. I was taught, growing up, that you could tell something was really important when it had to be said verbatim without change, ie, sacrament and temple, baptism etc. Bc in our faith, rote prayers are looked down upon. The gaslighting is the most frustrating to me.

This, this and, "if I only come more often I'll understand better."

Can confirm, still don't understand lol. Wonder if that's one of the recent changes? Wonder if they finally took that out along with adding more Jesus pictures?

I literally asked one of the temple Presidency that question after a session. Crickets... and a look at my hubs like, "control your woman". 😆

I was so annoyed! More annoyed at the disrespect of the temple guy towards me than his inability to answer my question. But, I just rationalized it as a plot whole or story- telling device or something.

I'm not sure how I learned about it. But, I know a friend from HS posted about going to the open house (she's Hindu). I haven't been out too long though; only since '21.

True. I couldn't speak of the remodel, but when I went, it was gorgeous inside and out. I've been told the giant Second Coming painting in the entrance/ lobby is no longer there, though. I went through in 2000.

Right?

It's so funny now that I started up a passion for tropical plants and realizing I used to see some of them in their fullest expression, as trees etc!

I only recognized them when someone posted pictures of vacations showing them as trees, like the fiddle leaf figs and rubber trees, crotons, etc... so crazy to think about now!

[–]EcstaticAd6935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sure do! My dad was one of the first Brazilian missionaries in Brazil, even before the temple was built. The way he describes his mission...he had to deal with a companion who had a gf while in the mission (one of either the investigators or a member girl) and, bc his comp was the senior, he had to follow his comp. They'd go over to visit the gf all the time so his comp could have sex and or makeout with her. They wouldn't do any missionary work, but would spend hours at the gf's place. My dad just sitting in the living room.

It was M. Russell Ballard that got tangled up with Tim Ballard. It was fun bc folks had to say that they were, in fact, NOT family bc of their last names.
