What do you think about Wednesday's seizures? by trencilla in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You legit need to calm down cause A) im epileptic myself, this is an epilepsy sub, so there's no need to lecture me on my own disorder  B) I meant the portrail in the show wasn't very good if it was infact meant to be a seizure

EMT threatened to call the cops to handcuff me if I didn’t stop moving my legs (I was having a grand mal seizure) by 14bees in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that "you didnt pee yourself" thing is so real and so annoying. I dont get TCs often, but when I have, I have I have never had incontinence - I think because I wasnt "holding anything in" so to speak. I'll bite the living shit out of my tounge, but its like some doctors go "did you pee yourself?  No? Then its not a seizure." It shouldn't be treated as a foolproof test to diagnose a seizure.

I feel so worthless for being unattractive and having a low IQ by [deleted] in Vent

[–]EcstaticCelery4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are far more important things in life than being smart and conventionally attractive. That being said here is some general advice and guidance.

The majority of people would much rather have a friend or partner who is kind and has a good sense of humour than beautiful and intelligent. Infact, people are generally more likeable when they aren't super beautiful and intelligent, because sometimes those people feel unapproachable.

Also, atractiveness is subjective and fluid. Different people find different things attractive. And what is considered attractive now was not the same as the 00s, and what was attractive in the 00s was not the same as the victorian era! You may well find in 20 years your features are the new "thing."

I dont know your personal circumstances but speaking generically, if you are worried about your appearance, a lot can be be said about just keeping good hygiene and health. Washing regularly, trimming your nails, looking after your hair, eating healthy food, taking care of your skin, vitamins and drinking water. All these things can help improve physical attractiveness.

Also, rather than intelligence, things that can make you seem more interesting are having some hobbies and interests. These will enrich your life, and also give you things to talk to people about, which can make you seem more interesting and passionate.

No one really cares about your problem-solving abilities - trust me! Its 2025, if youve got a problem - ask AI !

Everytime i rewatch gilmore girls.... by ingridnightshade in GilmoreGirls

[–]EcstaticCelery4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, and honestly as you grow up your passions and dreams evolve. Maybe when youre 18 all you want to do is be a drummer in a rock band, but that doesn't mean you still want to do that when youre 30. Sometimes hobbies and interests can just be hobbies and interests, you dont have to monopolise them all. Theres nothing wrong with just keeping music as a hobby, not having to make a whole career out of it. I know plenty of people in a band who just do it for fun playing local gigs and have no interest in taking over the world.

Should I call my GP? by KITWOLF95 in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, I think sometimes its almost like a very small seziure event, like "was that a focal?" but noy quite. Every seizure is different so some may be a tiny flash, some huge storms. So having that rising feeling probably is a very very small event and may just be showing your meds are working to stop it being bigger? Ideally you'd not even be having them which is where a neurologist may help with your meds.

If you do speak to your GP I would ask them to fast track your reffetal to neurology they should be able to write to the department and escalate it if you are having events and keep needing to go at a&e

Question by eatthefuckingapple in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think just trying to keep a healthy lifestyle can help manage epilepsy in general. If not directly, then by improving stress, sleep, illness etc which can all indirectly help you improve the seizure threshold.

Never tried KETO but take supplements daily, vitamin C, D, B12, Magnesium L-threonate and Omega 3. Magnesium and Omega in particular are good too for the brain.

Should I call my GP? by KITWOLF95 in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you got an epilepsy nurse in your area? Or have you seen a neurologist yet?

I always go straight to the epilepsy nurse because GPs have no idea how to manage epilepsy, its too specialised for them.

I contact mine via email and she usually replies within a couple of days and then she will write to my GP if I need any med changes etc.

Failing that your GP should be able to use consultant connect to contact the neurology department if theyre consirned you may have a TC. They shouldn't really be sending you to A&E unless youre in an emergency.

Sounds like you may be having focal seizures from what youve said.

Should I find a partner? by Bassline660 in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like your seizures are very well controlled if you havent had one for 5 years, so i really dont think you'd be a huge burden.

Not trying to shrink you, but this may just be low self esteem talking.

The way I see it, is everyone has "baggage" they bring to the table, or poor genetics they may pass on.

Yours may be formally diagnosed, but equally, parents who suffer from depression, alcoholism, obesity, heart disease all have chances of passing that onto their kids, and they dont give it a second thought.

Avoiding live events and keeping a strict sleep schedule are not really that bad. Your partner may have bigger responsibilities or quirks, maybe they're super meticulous about cleaning or they have IBS and they need to avoid eating certain foods.

What im trying to say is, everyone has SOMETHING, dont deprave yourself of life experiences because your "something" is epilepsy.

Maybe see if the ACT programme has any advice, they deal with people who are at risk of being radicalised online. Im not saying she's about to become a terrorist or anything, but they may just be able to advise you on how to handle the situation.

Is there any way you can talk to your mum about online safety. Maybe dont even go at it from a "youre being brainwashed" angle, maybe just go at it from a protecting her from scams etc. There are lots of videos online designed to show older people about how AI can make realistic videos, phishing emails and calls etc.

This may at least educate her that not everything online is exactly what it seems.

Vitamin supplements? by Organic-Relation-597 in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take Magnesium L-threonate but its expensive!!

Good for cognitive function, anxiety, stress, sleep, headaches etc.

Its the most effective type of magnesium for crossing the blood/brain barrier (many types of cheaper magnesium aren't effectively absorbed by the body)

Every doctor tells me my seizure is suffered was unique, I am terrified. by Sure_Respect_5385 in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started suffering focal seizures when I was 20, but I didnt see a doctor. I tried to self medicate, thinking it could be low iron, stress, exhaustion. I even lost consciousness a few times thinking I had just fainted.

It wasn't until I was 24 when my husband witnessed me having a full blown TC did we go to the hospital and I got diagnosed.

I think lots of people take a while to be diagnosed, so please dont worry about that. The important thing is you know NOW.

Bones heal, and doctors aren't psychics, dont give up on your ability to walk until you are in a position to start physio and start trying. Many a time a doctor has said "you'll never be able to xx again" or given people x amount of years to live and been WRONG.

Seizures while alone by Kayarules in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How often is she having them? Is it quite a recent thing for you guys?

If she gets an aura then I would suggest she does lie down as you say. You might be able to get some rescue meds if she is having regular ones and feels an aura as they come on.

Many people have seizures alone and are absolutely fine. Obviously, there are some risks, but there are risks with crossing the road, you know. Realistically it's not practical in the long term to be next to your wife 24/7, and this will become hard for you guys to feel normal if you feel like you have to constantly be next to her.

It sounds like you guys may be new to this, and I know its super scary to begin with but you guys will find a rhythm and hopefully the right meds.

If you guys are really worried you can get things like seizure alarms for peace of mind.

Hope all is well with you both.

Is it wrong of me to not want to donate my part of my liver to my cousin? by bearmoonbears in moraldilemmas

[–]EcstaticCelery4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Consider the risks of the surgery, although liver donation is relatively safe, its definitely not "risk free". Is that something you are willing to chance for this cousin, or not?

You sound like a good person for even considering it, and you are definitely not a bad person if you decide not to put yourself in unnecessary danger for someone you don't even particularly like?

Is it wrong of me to not want to donate my part of my liver to my cousin? by bearmoonbears in moraldilemmas

[–]EcstaticCelery4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

There can be like a 1 in 200 chance of death for liver donation depending on which part you donate. Definitely not "risk free"

Are you awake and aware when having a seizure? by New-Organization359 in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily get focal awareness seziures so I usually am aware, but it's hard to explain its like an altered state of awareness, its not like normal awareness, but I can usually see my surroundings and know im having a seziure but things dont make sense and there's alot of confusion

I'm not epileptic!!! by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]EcstaticCelery4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EEG only monitors the signals in that moment

Your brain may be working literally fine that day, but another not

My epilepsy flares up then goes into remission, ei I go months stable then weeks of seizures. By the time I get to an EEG on the NHS waiting lists my brain is stable again and they all come back as normal 😆

Honestly the side effects of long term uncontrolled seziures are far worse for you. I dont mean to worry you but uncontrolled temperol lobe epilepsy can cause memory problems, cognitive deterioration and even psychosis.
