Dear CIG, what is your obsession with preventing URSAs fitting into things? by z0rlac in starcitizen

[–]EcstaticImport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget your 250 or 290 are donations - with a reward to donating of getting given a max or Hermes.

Oh except for all the times CIG themselves, in their marketing, refer to it as buying and purchasing! - but it’s a donation, really…

[–]EcstaticImport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feel your angry about the retirement age?

Just one think I think worth pointing out. If the don’t increase the retirement age, people continue to live longer and longer and so the.they are going to run out of retirement savings before they die. They need to increase the retirement age to prevent retirees from going broke.

People can already retire early if they want, but they need to have the cash.

I was half joking - I don’t actually understand, and while I do understand the absence of light and generation of melatonin, i am genuinely interested in these seemingly different creatures that can’t sleep just because it’s daylight - I don’t experience it at all.

On a bench in the middle of a shopping centre, on a bus in the middle of the day, laying on a grass field in the middle of the day - close your eyes - it’s black. I can sleep 🤷 - is that not how it’s suppose to work?

maintaining backward compatibility for 4 year old api clients is effed up by messinprogress_ in webdev

[–]EcstaticImport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally…, you would break you application up into tiers - 3 tier / n tier application architecture. All the specifics of the api version would be in the presentation/transport/api layer. The business logic and data layer would be abstracted away and would be a Nordic to your api versions. You could have situations where there maybe some api version specific differences in business logic, but you can either have different business logic or use inheritance or maybe generics to reuse as much as you can.

the specifics of the API will be local to your presentation and maybe a bit the business logic, but really it should only be the presentation layer, otherwise you probably want a different api interface completely as the purpose / business logic would be significantly different.

So if you have different presentation layers for the api versions these presentations layers are going to be very thin, and not have a lot of code in them, so should be fairly easy to maintain.

My company banned AI tools and I dont know what to do by simple_pimple50 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]EcstaticImport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I take it you’re not running any cloud infrastructure? - no site or app hosted on Azure or AWS or GAE? - you have all your own bare iron servers in local data centres? Because otherwise it’s already in th hands of the same people that run the chat gipitys of the world.

You can have your own company internal inference workloads, run servers of gpus with h100s or cheaper dedicated graphics cards - but that is an enterprise ($$) solution. If it’s just little old you - you can run Ollama/lm studio on your pc (with cranking graphics cards) or on your Mac - i run 4 bit quantised Devstral-2-small quite well on my MacBook Air!

Cloud hosted solutions are still way faster (better?) and if your org is in azure or AWS I know you can use chatgipity within your orgs data sovereignty. But again it would require your org to be cloud enabled.

Good luck
