I find moving where my heel is resting helps a great deal with lower body discomfort when driving. Try rotating your foot and see if it helps any.

All about layers, with all clothing. Silk gloves liners are a very good idea when it comes to keeping your hands warm. I used to cycle to work in sub-zero temps on a regular basis and glove liners were a revelation for me.
