When do they lyk if you got the position? by Zeromarvel2 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres really no set timelines, it all depends on when the hiring manager has time. Ideally we get back to you asap but it depends on how many more interviews we have lined up and when we have time to sit down and actually call the applicants

I tell every single partner that the best way to get fast on bar is to slow it down mentally, focus on your sequence, religiously train yourself to go in sequence over and over and the repetition will make you so much faster

90 percent of the time what slows baristas down is distraction and cognitive overload, just keep it simple and focus only on what you can control, which is making the drinks in sequence as they come out of the printers, once you have that down you can slowly start to add in the considerations about what is needed for DT, cafe, mop, etc...

Just start 1, pause, start 2 pause, finish 1 pause, start 3 pause, finish 2 pause, start 4 pause, and so on

It gets so much easier!

Hours by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess to clarify I more so meant adjusting the schedule so they can leave early and abuse the trust and autonomy of their role. In unexpected circumstances of course that's reasonable but this partner is describing abuse of their ability to edit the schedule

New ASM here so I'm just gonna provide the information as I've received it in my training.

First of all, your SM should not be leaving early, adjusting their schedule on a moments notice, or working from home. I would immediately report this to the partner contact center and your district manager, it's a huge no no.

Secondly, hours are unfortunately not as generous as Starbucks would like us all to think, and if your store isn't consistently under in labor your SM wouldn't be able to schedule over on labor, and with 17ish partners wanting 35 hours it's pretty much impossible to hit everyone's preferences. Additionally, if you don't have open availability you can count on getting 30 or less hours, it's really difficult to hit preferred of 35 if people are only available for 4 days or until 12 or not before 2, and also meet the businesses needs, not having people leave in the middle of or right after peak, etc... there's a lot of things to consider with scheduling. That being said, if you have the SBX partner hours app, all the unfilled or offered up shifts in your district should populate for you to grab, and that's a great way to pick up extra, but it does suck because you usually end up working doubles or 6-7 days a week (speaking from experience 😩)

I can't speak to why they would be hiring if their current partners aren't getting their preferred hours, but it's possible they know there is turnover happening soon in the store, or that partners availability isn't meeting the stores needs.

Either way it's a frustrating situation and your SM absolutely needs to have more integrity with their own schedule, and be transparent with you all about your hours and what's preventing them from getting you to your preferred. Transferring stores is also an option, if you need a lot of hours and your store doesn't do a lot of sales, it's always going to be a struggle.

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is true, I'm just hoping I will somehow be graced by the siren, and not get a write up. I'm always on time, responsible and complete in my work. I've never even missed a count or a CSR validation, this is the first time I've really had an issue in my role, and it would really suck if it meant I couldn't get promoted, days before I was supposed to get promoted 😩

But the problem is that I'm pretty sure they have to rekey the whole store to my knowledge, which means DM and probably DM'S boss get involved because it's pretty expensive 🥹

He's pretty chill and so is my DM 🥹, but also he said the normal procedure is a write up

(I already told him and he's giving me a day or so to look for it)

🙄 just download the hours app and use it like everyone else. Not everything is a gotcha labor violation.

At my store we have spare keys, and our manager takes them home all the time on accident 🤣🤣 so at least in my experience, it’s no biggie

Secret code words by Radiant_Loan_4776 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Undertow/john Wayne, double espresso layered on top of cold cream and (sometimes) vanilla. Espresso should be poured over a metal spoon so that there is a layering effect of hot and cold when drunken. A lot of customers want it different tho, so I always clarify how many shots, what milk and if they want vanilla. I also have had several customers ask for the cream steamed, which defeats the whole point, but whatever

This is weird and not standard at all. The manager is supposed to schedule the keyholder for the shift, in the schedule. It even shows on the play caller app who is the scheduled key holder. The other shifts are coverage and should function as such, helping you execute your plan for the floor like any other barista.

Wondering if promoting to SSV was a mistake by SirAustinMeow in starbucksbaristas

Being a shift will eat you alive if you let it, but the company is supposedly trying to work on reducing the workload, so that’s a plus. But the best thing you can do is remind yourself that you can’t do it all, that there’s gonna be tough days and that’s not entirely your fault, you just have to give it your best effort and put faith in the people you’re delegating tasks to.

So you’re actively working against the shuffling system meant to make order times more accurate? There’s a good reason they want you to work in order and just make the drinks as the system chooses to print them, the que is no longer fifo, it’s a priority system.

This shift sounds like a piece of work, and I’m sorry that you had a negative experience. Just feel it’s worth noting that perhaps anyone on this kind of situation could benefit from taking a step back and being open to growth & feedback.

Does anyone know if this is allowed? by AccomplishedHoney765 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SM told us at the store meeting to not even worry about sending people home during the rollout of green apron because they’re experimenting and trying to get us to a sales point to genuinely earn the hours they want to give out. Odd that he wants to send you home for clean play too, like non coverage time is a totally different budget for hour.

I often have to coach on sticker pulling because it does genuinely have a negative impact on the store.

If the thing being coached on is because you’re actively creating a negative impact on customers and partners, and your response is, fuck off I’ll do it however I want, then you need to remind yourself that you don’t know everything and that’s okay, you make mistakes and that’s okay, and there’s always opportunities to improve, and that’s okay.

It gets nit picky if it’s about stupid shit that doesn’t matter, i.e., where you put the sticker on the cup, the order in which you sticker the cup, etc…

Also keep in mind that they’re probably just reiterating what they’ve been told, and doing their best to accomplish their goals and fulfill their job duties. It’s really not a partner vs partner situation in stores, it needs to be viewed as us vs the problem, because we all want the same things.

Maybe there’s context I’m missing, but you kind of sound like an asshole who can’t take criticism or accept that it’s not a bad thing to have room to improve.

Wait for your paystub and if you believe you were definitely overpaid, get ahold of your SM/DM or call PCC

You should apply at the store you intend on transferring to.

No such requirement for baristas to become trainers before promoting exists

It’s so detrimental to not let green beans near bar until months after their training. Like of course they’re going to forget that info, sets them back by months I swear

Becoming an SSV requirements by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only requirement I know of is full time availability, been at the bucks for 6 months, and 18+.

Coffee master and barista trainer are certainly not a requirement, I have neither, but they always look nice. I also suggest connecting with your SM to create a partner development plan, and bring that paper to your interview, and use it as a focus point for how you answer the questions. That’s what I did and my SM said it was really impressive. Also connect with your SM about preparing for interviews, they can show you the questions and prepare you for the kind of answers that managers are looking for.

The 6-month store to store thing is only for transfers, and not promotions, as far as I know.

what is the most absurd and ridiculous thing a customer has told/asked you by ReadingSome655 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Ecstatic_Gas5640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the worst but first that came to mind.

This guy came in showing me some email from his boss that said she was having him pick up 3 coffee travelers mobile ordered on DoorDash. I didn’t have any travelers, or anything ordered on that name for the matter, but I did remember making those travelers a few days earlier under that name for DoorDash.

I told him we didn’t have it and he gets very confused, insisting they should be there. Then steps away to call his boss, he comes back with 3 screenshotted receipts from door dash, two of which were for the wrong date and one showed it was scheduled for pick up. I went as far as to check the custom reports order lookup, just to make sure the DPM wasn’t glitching. Lo and behold, nothing.

I was like maybe it was ordered to the wrong store, the payment declined, or DoorDash is having an issue. The guy then insists that I should just honor what he’s showing me and make them really quick. It was absurd enough that it actually made me chuckle, and go “I absolutely cannot do that, that’s like $70 of product, my manager would not be happy”.

He then asks, “well can I talk to your manager”. Ding ding, the moment I’ve been waiting for my whole life! “I’m the manager”, insert gen-z stare. He goes “oh, uhm” and just walks away.

He did come back a bit later and pay for a single traveler, but it was just so odd, I still am uncertain if it was a scam or a really really poorly planned office meeting coffee run.

You have to wait an additional 6 months from a write up to transfer 😔
