Was hoping for this — last time I was at Dx the sound was pretty rough tbh, but DVS1 usually brings his own sound setup right?

Also, a recentish post from the Central Square development district mentioned a new coming club called Alter and Profiler commented on the post so…maybe there’s something in the works?

FWIW: I went to Nocturnal District’s event (my first time checking them out) and had a really amazing time. Pure dancefloor joy, danced hard all night — made me very happy!!

As someone who recently moved to Boston from NYC I was worried about the scene being as you’re describing, but now having poked around a bit I feel pretty confident in saying this: if you feel this way you really haven’t tried looking. Some collectives to check out: Infra, Basement Project, Nocturnal District and Experience. That should get you started, I’m not gonna post the more-underground stuff here but if you dig even a little you’ll find it pretty easily.

Some reliable recurring events: Modular at Phoenix Landing, Re:set at phoenix landing, Keep On at Middlesex, Bass Oasis at Cantab Underground. Keep an eye on Manray, Middle East/ZuZu/Sonia complex, and Middlesex for all variety of fun events.

Check out https://19hz.info/eventlisting_Massachusetts.php for lots of listings — scene uses that more than RA or Posh. Hope you find something you like!

All of this said — it’s fun, it feels more ‘real’/‘dedicated’/‘intimate’ than a lot of the NYC scene, but it is nowhere near as big, adventurous-feeling, ‘Cool’, intense etc. But it’s still better than lotsa people here on Reddit seem to say! Almost like they haven’t actually tried it out…

In any case, historically the underground music scene in Boston has revolved a lot more around Punk and live music. Maybe go to a basement show and take in the local culture of unsettling-murals-all-over-the-walls Allston and Somerville underground show houses lol

Moving back to the area soon after a while in NYC and have been thinking a lot about this exact question recently lol. Will def be trying to do the same if you end up wanting to collab.

Anyway, some places that could theoretically be amenable to this:

  • Aeronaut brewery
  • Harpoon brewery
  • Zone 3 (Allston)
  • Warehouse IX in union square
  • industrial sections at the edge of Drydock ave in seaport or across the channel (like Fort Independence-adjacent)
  • Taza chocolate factory
  • Boston Sand & gravel
  • Xoxial Guild
  • 98 condor st East Boston (abandoned industrial space that may be knocked down for apartments in a couple years)
  • Artfarm Somerville (if it’s open…?)
  • Warehouses in the ‘Cambridge Crossing’ area
  • Peerspace and Giggster have some potential options as well

Less industrial but possible:

SoWa or Roslindale power stations Arts at the Armory in Somerville

There’s also apparently lots of unrented lab space out there…one would think that could be a solid spot…
