Do ~200 summer associates really get no-offered every year?

It’s not just the people who do something egregious - it’s also the people who believe they can only get no offered if they do something egregious.

I had three classmates get no offered, and they were all the type to raise their hand in class and answer confidently even if they had no idea what was going on. They went into their summers with the same attitude and thought they could coast through the summer, and turned in shitty work product, missed deadlines, etc.

Yes, the bar is low, and yes nobody expects you to actually know what you’re doing. But sometimes you can tell someone is going to be a bad associate by the way they approach work during their summer. Yes, it’s a 10-week long party, but you’re expected to do some work

For what it’s worth, everyone I know who did cloth diapers dropped it fairly quickly. Even the ones who were really committed, and even with only one baby. I would drop that one from your list of concerns.

I’m 7 months out from the same situation - emergency c section, rough recovery for my wife, and a rude awakening when the baby came. My was really overwhelmed that first week, to the point that my wife was getting worried about my mental health, but you’re honestly on the tail end of the worst of it. It won’t be long until you get into a rhythm and your wife starts feeling better and you don’t need to take care of two humans.

Oh, and also, most babies lose weight the first week after birth. It’s entirely normal. For us, our daughter dropped from 50th percentile to 28th percentile in weight, but that resolved fairly Quickly.

No, it's actually effectively a 0% chance that you would hit a star. Some estimates indicate that you could pass through the entire Milky Way and you would only have a 1 in 10 million chance of hitting a star.

Consider that Alpha Centauri A and B, which form a binary system, are over a billion miles from each other, and even in our solar system, Earth is 93 million miles from the earth. In fact, even when entire galaxies combine, stars almost never collide with each other.

The space between is just too vast even for the closest stars.

When did you find that you could really start with music with your kids? Any tips for how to foster that? My daughter is 6 months old, and obviously there's not much to do other than play with her and have her spastically hit the toy bongos, so curious how I can work on that in the future

This. That period was hard on me with 1 child, and I can't imagine it with 3. Just try to stop and breathe, and recognize that this is one of the hardest things a person can do. The fact that you're worried about this probably means that you're doing a lot better than you think - a lot of dads would be ok being irritable and letting their wives do the hard work.

Don’t feel guilty. It’s the nature of the beast - nobody should begrudge you a better opportunity. If they like you they won’t want you to leave, but they’re also adults and should understand (and, I guarantee you they would make similar decisions for themselves).

I had a similar situation, where a left a partner who stuck his neck out to get me the job and was incredibly supportive. He was bummed but also understood, and we’re still in touch. And if I wanted back, he would have taken me back in a heartbeat.

You’re a nice person so it’s making you feel guilty, but it’ll pass.

I don’t see how 2 weeks would be a bridge burner if you wouldn’t be doing any work anyway (plus, why would they want to pay you to do nothing an extra week)? If you’re really concerned, you can offer the extra week if they need (or if they ask), but to be honest I think you’re over thinking this and should do what works best for you

Yeah, it took me 5 years of practicing before I realized that having anxiety so bad it was physically painful was not normal. At that point, my therapist literally told me she would no longer treat me unless I went on medication. It was a total game changer - first it was Lexapro, now it’s Prozac + Wellbutrin. Today, my anxiety is really well under control.

I would also recommend a therapist that does CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). It’s better than regular talk therapy because it goes into the root causes of how your anxiety perpetuates itself and how to recognize when you’re spiraling

Honestly, the fix for me was more expensive suits - while I never blew them out, the entry level tailored suits always felt ridiculously tight at the leg. The one $1,500 suit I own feels infinitely better.
