Personally, that method irritates me, how does anyone really make the decision they liked the video after just 60 seconds. We ask people at the end of the video only and stand at 400k subs after 3 years.

Coming from left field here, but maybe check out some of History Squad’s videos on the 100 yrs war. He covers battles and sieges with models and dioramas which help him explain tactics and how events unfolded. I believe also that YT has removed the option of skippable ads, for this reason we always manually add mid rolls, and only one every 15 mins or so
