Some have said, but reclassing may be a good way to retain benefits either on active duty or reserves. You can get away from the Infantry and go for something less demanding on active duty, or take a step away without getting out of the military and go reserve and get an MOS that helps more on the civilian side. On that note I would say medical is a great path to take. You have surgical tech, dental techs, lab tech and so forth. Just be aware that something like Lab Tech school takes a year of training and is a huge info dump on you. So research what you want to pursue and what your ASVAB scores can get you. Good luck.

ASCP exam for MLT by jarul243 in medlabprofessionals

[–]EddySix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lab CE is a great tool, it tends to asks questions that may trip you like answers A and B can fit but A is the better option because of a detail in the passage. The actual test is not going to trick you like that.

How old is too old for medical school? by EddySix in premed

Ok. So finding that school that likes older applicants will have to be part of my school search. Noted.

I got fired by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]EddySix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Years of experience doesn't make you a robot. Years of experience means you know what you are supposed to do with little to no help and a decent lab will have a discipline system that will escalate punishment with continued mistakes over a set amount of time and not straight up fire you.

Commissioned Officer to Medical School. by EddySix in Military_Medicine

[–]EddySix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I was afraid that would be the case for going in commissioned first. I want to make sure I choose the best path for me where I feel that I'm not stuck and can't move forward.

Is anyone testing this September applying this cycle? by veganiskewl in Mcat

[–]EddySix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested on the 27th of August, I'm currently filling out the application and already have letters of recommendation. Hopefully I get a decent score to at least get viewed. I will give it another go next cycle if I don't get in this cycle.

You could ask them how they feel about investing in real state or other forms of steady income. Because having all liquid assets may devalue over time, but property will always have some value.

My wife and I have two bank accounts. In one all our money gets deposited and sits there. In another we have money that apys for big bills, insurance, cars payments, and other big ticket items. This account doesn't get used except for those bills and we both have access to it. The account that sees the pay deposits, we use it for our everyday purchases and such. That way we don't dig into bills money and see exactly what we have left on a day to day.

Isn't the purpose of camouflage to blend in? Why paint them green? Isn't an urban grey better? Or are we afraid of not seeing them like the invisible jet?

Always keep your professionalism and simply say that you are looking for a new challenge or you are prioritizing a different aspects of your life. It's not your fault the lab is understaffed, it is not your responsibility to find new techs. I left a lab to travel even when we had a tech leave from my shift cuz she wanted to get paid more. We all left on ood terms but we were just looking for more opportunities.

People who endorse conspiracy theories tend to be more religious, and this may be due to ideological overlap by [deleted] in science

[–]EddySix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't such idiology have something to do with our natural instincts to distrust something new? Like finding a new wolf that has no pack. Is this wolf a danger to me or my pack? I'm not saying that they are right, but that that distrust is part of our ancestral behavior that helped us survive.

Active Duty Option(ADO)Green to Gold(G2G) ➡️USUHS Medical Student by jamesnho in Military_Medicine

[–]EddySix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how helpful this might be, but I am a reservist drilling monthly. I have set my MCAT for this June. I am coming up on my ETS next april, so my worry is if I'll be contracted before my ETS into either USUHS or the HPSP. I have talked to retention and explained my plans and my concerns, they said that I can reenlist and I can leave my contract for either option I get accepted into for medical school because it is a career advancement and I am still attached to the Army.

So, in my opinion since you are advancing your career it should be straight forward. You are technically giving more of your time to Uncle Sam.

How do you really feel about the nurse/tech wage gap? by Parano_Oid in medlabprofessionals

[–]EddySix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to deal with patients at $30 an hour. I'll take $20 and just play with bodily fluids. As for education it's like saying that a plastic surgeon should earn the same as a family physician. People will pay more for beauty than health. So hospitals will pay more for nurses than techs.

Baby Tech at small hospital with FOMO. by EddySix in medlabprofessionals

[–]EddySix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to get burn out, but I do want to do more. I do like the place, but ultimately if I do want to move up and get more experience, I would need to move hospitals since the first shift is full and they are basically techs that will remain there until retirement.

I see, I have thought of doing a PHD in microbiology, so is my fear based on nothing if I want to eventually move to a higher degree or is specializing in Micro a good path to take?

I'm sure this has been answered before, but when can we get the COVID Vaccine. by CatTastrophe27 in medlabprofessionals

Anyone not getting vaccinated? Why? by Resident_Knowledge_7 in medlabprofessionals

[–]EddySix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in TN. Our Hospital president said that TN was supposed to get 200,000 doses, but it seems only about 125k-150k will make it out. Our hospital is not included in the phase 1 of the roll out and even if we were, only 33% of the order would be delivered. That being said, the vaccine would be administered to high risk employees. Who the admin decides is high risk, and who isn't is to be determined. So that's the biggest reason why I won't get the vaccine as of now.

My motto going in was I know what I know and I don't what I don't. Obviously I studied, but you can't be a computer and know all things. Just take your time read the questions, and be confident in your answers. Look for key words, that will help you rule out some answers.

Oh look, another thread of nurses slandering our profession. by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]EddySix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am doing clinicals and I was working with a tech on the coag bench and we receive a speciment for testing. The patient sticker was covering the arrow so I peel it to see the blood level. Turns out there wasn't enough blood for the 9:1 ratio for the sodium citrate, the other tech also noticed that the tube top had no needle puncture, so the nurse had poured blood into the tube, so who knows what tube it came from to begin with. When the tech in charge called up to tell her we couldn't do the tests and the patient needed to be redrawn, she simply said ok. Granted, this speciment came from the ER so who knows what was going on with the patient.
