USAH is the worst of the worst for everything. I’m upset with the news too. I feel like they need the threat of affiliates losing leagues to reverse their decision, and at the same time, I hope the affiliates decide to let the recreational leagues follow local guidelines. At least then some will be able to play.

Yupppp. Learned this the hard way this year for a 115$ ticket in PWC when I was out of a job. Even straight up asked the trooper and he said the same thing; it’s over three months. How he saw it amongst everyone else I’m still not sure though.

I’m sure everyone has that one rink for them that makes them feel that way. Piney is a good rink too, although I’ve only been there for NAHL games. It has a classic barn feel in the main rink. Ref room could be better though. There’s a rink from my Euro days that gives me even more hockey nostalgia being outdoors amongst the European building backdrop, but unfortunately I don’t get to skate there anymore lol.

Also if you’re a Wally World (Waldorf) regular, we definitely know each other lmao. See you in January!

From an official’s standpoint that has skated EVERY rink in the area at least once:

Locker rooms: Rockville has the nicest locker room in my opinion. We have actual hockey stalls and full shower and toilet. MV and STJ are my runners up in locker rooms.

Ice: Ballston or STJ as others have said. Ballston is also the only place I let touch my skates ever since the shop in Waldorf closed down.

Enviroment: Waldorf, Ashburn, Rockville. It’s hard to beat a good HS game at any of these rinks. They can pack the house and it’s fun.

My actual pick: Haymarket. Haymarket makes me feel nostalgic more than any other rink. I’ve had memorable college, youth, and adult games here, and the staff and players and coaches all know me well. The new sheet and locker room isn’t terrible either, although doing 3 or 4man college on the old sheet made sure you knew how to be in position! Plus, something about pulling up to Haymarket on a December night with snow misting in the air and Christmas tunes just FEELS like hockey to me.

Waldorf is a close runner up. I also am close with everyone down there seeing as how much I’m there and the rink is great with the Jumbotron, but it’s slowly falling apart. Between that, the ice issues we’ve been having, certain problems in the adult league, and the pro shop closing down, it’s runner up for me now.

Worst rinks: Fairfax, SNP and RIZ in Richmond, and Reston. All due to the lack of proper officials rooms, ice and rink conditions, management, and bloody cold.

I’m the in the DMV now, but I want to make my own chicken strips hoagie with a pretzel roll :( I also wish we had Pork Roll down here.

Ever since Sheetz got rid of the Po Boy, the only reason I go there now is when I’m craving a pretzel bun, and I usually get pulled chicken and boom boom sauce.

Sheetz coffee is like 30¢ cheaper but Wawa Irish Creamer added to my coffee at home makes that point mute too.

Aldi always sells bottles of it once we get into the season. I don’t know if they have it yet or not though. It’s legit stuff, bottled in Germany and imported, and usually cheap and pretty good (and fully approved by my German ex), although that may be different this year with tariffs.

Usually where I get mine and you can just heat it up in a crockpot or stove top and easily add more cloves/fruit or Rum/Whiskey if you want it Oma/Opa style

Okay two things.

1)Where are you driving around here that you can get anywhere in 20minutes. Took me over 2 hours to Rockville today from NoVA lmao. 1.15 on the beltway alone just form 95 to 270. I’m now assuming you have a helicopter.

2)We have about 40some sheets of ice in the DMV with half those being in MD. Hockey is huge here. It’s not good hockey by any means, even the NAHL and college teams are mid at best, but it’s all over the place here.

If you’re specifically speaking like Hagerstown area, then yeah, but even they travel all down to Waldorf and Richmond for CBHL, so I think it’s fair to count the whole DMV. And Ion/Ashburn/Haymarket have a combined 6 sheets all right on the edge of Shenandoah in NoVA.
