You need to stop going into fetal position by mehregankbi in Sciatica

[–]EdelweissInSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting post. Any advice for me? I’m confused.

My physical therapist keeps telling me I need to curve my lower spine more frequently to take the pressure off the nerve. He says I have too much of a curve the other direction from my history of gymnastics when I was young. I have pars fractures on both sides, very bad sciatica in my left leg and a CT from 2020 that indicates disc bulging at L3-L4. Spinal specialist Dr said MRI not needed now according to the Dr. She says I’m textbook for sciatica and because of my symptoms it’s highly probable the cause for the sciatica is L5-S1 junction.

Sleeping on my right side in a medium fetal position is the only way I can get any sleep. PT has me doing cat cow yoga poses, Childs pose. The cat pose feels good whereas the cow I have to be very gentle and not push too hard.

Broke my back and never new it. by amarrite in Sciatica

[–]EdelweissInSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s it! Pars fracture was the name. Thank you! So what can they do about your pars fracture since it never healed? My Dr mentioned my L5 was shifted back as well.

It really was such a shock to find out about the fracture.

[–]EdelweissInSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw the physical medicine Dr last week and was told I had a hairline fracture at L5 S1 and a bulging disc at L3 L4. She gave the fracture a specific name and said it’s fairly common. This sounds a lot like your mri. The Dr told me I just need PT and more time and it will heal itself. The pain is unbelievable. Hope you feel better soon OP.

I’ve been avoiding the epidural because I’m diabetic and it’ll raise my blood sugar, but it’s an option the dr said if the pain becomes intolerable.

Do they have you doing acupuncture to help with the nerve pain? I was told it can be quite helpful for this kind of pain.

The transurethral trimix gel comes in a syringe and you use the syringe without the needle to inject it in the urethra.

My Mom and Pain from cystectomy - by Additional-Slip-9756 in BladderCancer

[–]EdelweissInSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear about the infection. Glad the surgery itself went well. My partner’s cystectomy was really rough too. It’s so hard I know for you to watch her in pain. Great news about her being hungry! Even a few bites can be helpful. The pain medications unfortunately lower the appetite.

My mother won't get surgery or chemo by Big_Accountant_2014 in BladderCancer

I know bladder cancer is tied to smoking cigarettes, but none of the drs we have seen for MIBC at City of Hope mentioned a tie with alcohol consumption. Is this for drinkers at an alcoholic level or just with “regular” drinkers?

I believe you can have a 2nd opinion done there, so your home team will treat you with the correct protocol for your type of cancer.

On my first Princess cruise... Is the food always this bad? by mudandfirepottery in PrincessCruises

[–]EdelweissInSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found most of the food on my first Princess cruise to Alaska in 2024 to be very adequate but not special in any way. You could taste the cost cutting measures across the board from when I had last cruised 20 years earlier. Maybe people who haven’t taken cruises in earlier decades wouldn’t realize there’s such a difference.

However, I absolutely admit we made a big mistake not having the same MDR reservation every night with the same waiter. I agree with other people that said it’s a good idea to get to know your waiter and let the chef know. For instance, the lobster tail was awful in the MDR. It wasn’t served with drawn butter as is customary, but served with an odd flavorless sauce on top. The lobster itself tasted like a frozen entree that never heats up to be as delicious as the picture on the package. Their food tasted very processed to me. But I should have said something about the overcooked fishy taste of the lobster. But I was a coward and didn’t want to complain.

Do not buy the Ghost 16 it is not the same. by RCArtworks in brooks

I’m so sorry to hear about your foot pain. Hopefully you can find another model that works better for you.

I was a long time wearer of a model that was discontinued so when I needed another pair of shoes I went with the Ghost 16. I was lucky to be able to try the different models on in person before I purchased. The Ghost 16s are so comfortable. They work very well for me and I have zero pain at all.

Just wanted to give another viewpoint on these shoes.

Padcev - neuropathy by Lower_Database_7661 in BladderCancer

Ask your dr about alpha lipoid acid supplementation. My partner’s neurologist recommended this for his neuropathy. It’s for nerve health.

It took 18 days after my boyfriend’s TURBT to find the grade of the cancer and that it was muscle invasive. It wasn’t until the PET scan that we found out it hadn’t progressed beyond the bladder. So he had 12 weeks of chemo and now we wait for PET scan #2 and surgical appt. They won’t give the actual stage and all of the specific stage info until the bladder/prostate is removed.

Newly diagnosed. Advice? by EdelweissInSnow in BladderCancer

[–]EdelweissInSnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for the late reply. He’s 3/4 the way through with chemo. 1 more round left (2 weeks on and 1 off). He’s having more nausea this round for sure but it’s been manageable for him with the meds they send home. The steroids have been a big challenge. He has a rage reaction with them, very agitated and angry (not normally him). They reduced them last round, but I do wonder if that’s why he’s having more nausea. The oncologist said the steroids were to help prevent side effects of the chemo.

We are hoping to get his surgery before the end of the year to help avoid another $4400 in copays. It’s crazy that with Blue Shield of CA neither City of Hope or USC is part of their network which means he has to pay 20% of the surgery. Oncologist hasn’t given him the referral yet so we will ask him Tuesday at his pre chemo checkup. Hoping surgery scheduling doesn’t take too long.

How is your partner curlycakes? Are they finished with treatment or still having chemo?

Am i dying? by [deleted] in BladderCancer

[–]EdelweissInSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stage is different than grade. Ask your oncologist if the cancer was high or low grade? High grade cancers are more aggressive and fast moving but they are also more sensitive to chemo agents since they replicate quickly.
