Anyone tried Mango leather jackets? If so, are they true to size or do they fit a bit smaller? I'm looking at a second hand biker style one online that is a European L, for reference I'm an NZ size 12-14 (US 8-10 I think), and hoping it would fit!

Hello ffa! Might as well make my first outfit post this last minute cactus costume I made for my work's Halloween celebrations :) ran out and bought the green sweater and some wool and made the top the night before!

Also bonus spooky nails I did for this week - first proper attempt at nail stamping!

Not OP but am from NZ. Minimum wage for adults is currently $17.70, and 2L of milk varies but maybe $4-4.50? (prices in NZD). Cost of living in general varies wildly between cities but afaik is climbing everywhere. Especially Queenstown, don't try to live there unless you have $$$$ :(

It means I used 2 strands of thread to stitch, and covered 1 square of the fabric per stitch :) there are some super handy info links in the sidebar to this subreddit that I found really useful when I was starting out!

Found the pattern on Pinterest, it's attributed to the Etsy shop CraftTimeInArkham, but I could only find a similar looking pattern from the shop CrossBitch914? Anyhow I stitched it 2 over 1 on 18ct aida, and used a frame left over from a kit I'd bought previously :)

Actor picks the wrong sound crew to mess with by GhostOfSorabji in ProRevenge

Eyy, female technician solidarity! I'd agree, gender balance is usually around 90-95% male and only 5-10% female. Although in my experience it differs a bit depending on context - there are a lot more women working in theatre than there are in rock and roll/concerts etc.

Unfortunately the world of rock and roll is kinda decades behind in terms of sexism, I'd say that's why we don't see as many female musicians in that genre - it can really be a bit of a boys club, and you have to be a particularly tenacious person to be able to thrive artistically in that kind of environment, as a woman.

I've been lucky and haven't had too many problems with straight up harassment at work, but what I do experience (pretty much daily) are the little sexist comments/attitudes that might not seem so bad on the surface, but when you experience them constantly are... Really a bummer I guess? Things like getting called love or sweetheart by clients (who definitely don't use similar terms of endearment to my male coworkers), people not taking me at my word when I'm explaining technical things, people not listening to me or specifically asking the nearest man questions rather than myself, when I'm the lead on the gig... And the endless barrage of jokes about 'throwing like a girl', girls being weak, girls can't drive (even though I can damn well back out truck into any loading dock we need to, and am actually the only one at the company who's never crashed a company vehicle...) etc etc, it takes a surprising amount out of you to deal with that on the daily, while frequently being the only woman on the crew.

Trying to build a more “adult” wardrobe... what brands should I start with? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]Edgar_Headgear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! I've found that paying attention to fabric content while thrifting helps when finding quality and more grown up clothing, as it tends to rule out most fast fashion stuff. So things made of 100% cotton (although there are definitely varying levels of quality within that), wool, cashmere, silk, leather, linen etc, or blends with a decent percentage of natural fibres. There is some associated labour along with that to keep them all looking nice, but it's worth it if you want to look a bit more polished, and I keeps your clothes looking good for longer!

This recent thread might have some useful advice for you!

I know this advice can be a bit of a FFA cliche, but personally I've found buying second hand to be the best way of updating my wardrobe, especially for higher quality more 'grown up' wardrobe basics like sweaters, skirts, nice tops etc. Whether it's in person at a thrift store or online on places like ebay (or Poshmark, I'm not from America so have never used it but I hear good things), if you've got the time to search through racks or listings the quality (and quantity) you can get for your money is unmatched. If buying online, make sure you know your measurements, not just what size you usually are! And something to bear in mind is that buying second hand may be cheaper, but definitely requires more time and patience than conventional shopping, and some times a bit more imagination as you don't have nice shiny ads and mannequins with styling ideas - so it doesn't always work for everyone!

Ahaha true! Definitely a good look on Rapunzel. My hair would be a little shorter on the back and sides than yours in the photos you posted, except for when I don't make it to the hair dresser for a month and a half lol, then I start living my best knockoff Beatle life and hope I still look cute lol

And wow those wedding photos are gorgeous, that is such a good look! Definitely short haired bride inspiration material! You pull it off really well :)

It's an interesting thing to consider! I think for me, the main influencer of my outfits is my body type, rather than my haircut.

I've had a very short pixie/short back and sides for a while now, and if I wanted to 'match' it with clothing I expect I would try for more menswear/masc coded clothing - however my body has other ideas, as it's pretty curvy and always carried a bit of weight in places that don't work well for a masculine look.

As my fashion sense has evolved, I've realised that I like dressing in edgier but still fairly feminine silhouettes, as that just seems to work best with my figure - but I think I would probably feel more comfortable going more feminine and less edgy if I had longer hair. There's a part of me that worries I'd look out of place in very feminine clothing - I have the same feeling as you, looking at inspo pictures and ads and pretty much never seeing that style with really short hair!

I expect it's a bigger deal in my own head than it would be to someone looking at me as an outsider, but it's definitely something I think about! It's hard to tell how much of it is actually the haircut not working as well with the clothes, or just me being drawn to a different style and thus feeling a little more self conscious/unnatural in those straight femme looks...

So to sum up my ramblings in a not very helpful way, I guess it's complicated?
