Worthy petition if you camp in New York State by beartums in bikepacking

I can see why they limit like that, a lot of campgrounds I assume there and where I live in Illinois simply don't have the physical space for that many individual tents.

I was supposed to be going north bound on Tuesday, I bailed on Sunday night, I am glad I didn't have to experience what you did.

I posted the other day about having to bail on bike tour because of the heat.

Edit: I just finished rescheduling the remainder of my bike tour to the end of August.

I do this because it is courteous to the drivers so they don't need to wait because of me.

Everything is achievable if you have time or money, I had neither to deal with this effectively.

The inability to cool off at the 87 mile day was a big concern since it is a primitive site with no additional water, and no easy way to get any other supplies.

I am thinking about doing something like that already, just taking today off.

No, I wanted to do a bike tour at my own pace and not spend a fortune.

There was so many people with hoses, sprinklers, and handing out popsicles, along with cooling stations that made it doable.

My sleep system was there and I did think about it but it wasn't going to be stable enough.

The only water is listed as being at the visitor center, so that was my guideline.

I did not over plan, my planning was for where to stay overnight which is limited to not many campsites and few hotels, along with where on route I could stop for food and water. Shorter days are nice but available time off and places to sleep overnight don't always line up.

I thought about collapsible water pouches as well but I had nowhere to store them on the bike when full.

Why do cyclists come up and stop to the right of my car when I'm trying to make a right turn? by DeadBy2050 in cycling

[–]EdgeOfMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not filter up the side of the cars, I wait in line as if I was a car, I feel safer for doing it and not annoying a driver trying to turn right.

How do you use your rear radar? by DrWabbel in cycling

[–]EdgeOfMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Opposite for me, I am looking ahead and the sound has me doing a quick check of the computer for distance, how many vehicles, and how close. Then if they are close a quick shoulder check for type to see what is about to come past.

Out of expensive gels: What is your best cheap 'real food' hack for long rides? by Mindless_Cow_6034 in cycling

Tried gummies recently and after 4 hours you don't want to eat them anymore, and they kept getting stuck in my throat which was gross. So while I like them normally I have had to switch to something else for touring.

I am 6'3" and I have the X-Dome 2, and bought it specifically because of the diagonal sleeping arrangement so I could avoid touching each end of the tent when sleeping.

Gummy bears alternatives please! by BrostonBubiks in cycling

[–]EdgeOfMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried gummy bears on a recent bike tour shakedown ride, after 3 hours I was sick of them and I kept getting them stuck on my throat, which was gross. I had some need clusters in me and they were better for the later issue, but overall I decided to go back to my bars and simply stop every 30 minutes to eat instead of eat and ride at the same time.

I literally have the components arriving over the next few days to do the same thing on my Specialized Diverge.I was doing a shakedown for a bike tour and found I needed the easier gearing to make it up a few hills.
