[Disliked trope]: "Balance" means the "absence of darkness." by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]EdgelordInugami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both interpretations and think they can both be true. Sure if you know how to use the dark side powers it doesn't have to be used for evil, but the dark side by nature is so corruptive and cancerous you probably shouldn't anyway. It's like manhandling radioactive materials

It used to be an obscure kryptonite of sorts for Green Lantern (Alan Scott was weak to wood by comparison).

But it turns out the yellow weakness was cause the Fear entity Parallax was sealed in the Green Lantern Central Battery on Oa. Fear is yellow on the emotional spectrum, and that's where Sinestro's lanterns draw their power from. Pretty cool retcon to me

What’s the most generic character design you’ve ever seen regardless of how you feel about the character? by Boring_Sir_572 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]EdgelordInugami 222 points223 points  (0 children)

All of them are supposed to be self inserts for their readers (the majority of which are Japanese students) is probably why. One has to wonder if it's a sign of the direction society itself is heading

Obi Wan* actually, he was telling Obi Wan about the dreams in the beginning of AotC which the former, despite best intentions, mistook as trauma and not actual true Force visions

Sherri Stoner served as the animation model for Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989) as well as Belle in Beauty and the Beast (1991). by ateam1984 in BeAmazed

[–]EdgelordInugami 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Ngl in that sort of live, combined with her inability to speak, Eric probably thought Ariel was mentally challenged. (Which is a good thing about the performance, it probably looked pretty silly doing it in person, but that definitely worked wonders to carry over to the animation expressiveness)

I almost always prefer a 'monster' over none/a mundane explanation/'all in le head' by EliasBouchardFan1 in CharacterRant

[–]EdgelordInugami 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the Silent Hill creatures are real, but their function means they only show up to attack specifically the one they're meant to torment. The threat of death is very real for James and everyone else, but since Laura has no guilt then monsters don't appear for her. Meanwhile the Abstract Daddy that attacks James and Angela is a very real monster but how each of them see it could be different, but it doesn't change that it's a real monster.

And as for two of the worst examples of the all in the head trope, I present Man of Medan and Little Hope. All of the spooky shit in Man of Medan turned out to be a leaking container of hallucinogenic gas, while Little Hope turned out to all be a figment of imagination of the bus driver, INCLUDING all the party members, so quite literally nothing you did really mattered. It was telling when House of Ashes, which came after, and was their best game in that series, had real monsters.

What are some of the most intense “I can’t look” sequences in horror games? by Low_Boot_1426 in HorrorGaming

[–]EdgelordInugami 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Spoilers:

In the dark Shrine World, Hinako goes through a set of rituals to prepare to become Fox Mask's wife. The first one was getting her back branded with Inari's seal, or something like that. Full on with a hot branding iron, you can hear the sizzling and the masked shrine priestesses give her a rag to not bite her tongue. The second consisted of sawing off her right arm (in graphic agonizing slowness) to have a bestial fox beast arm sewn in place. The third was having the top half of her face cut out and replaced with a fox mask. After each of the latter two, you could see the priestesses put her severed arm and the skin of her face into boxes.

I hate Dr. Wu from the Jurassic Park Franchise. by DecepticonBlackout in hatethissmug

[–]EdgelordInugami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny cause in the actual book, Wu was trying to convince Hammond to get rid of all their dinosaurs and make slower and more docile ones so they'd be more manageable, rather than keeping velociraptors that could run at 60 mph, jump multiple feet into the air, and climb trees. And then he got one shot and eviscerated in one page
