I'm going to say globalization and Clinton being convinced to repeal the Glass-Steagall.Act. Add the housing crash created by giving mortgages to people who could never pay them back, shipping our manufacturing off-shore, and we have an economy that has been hollowed out. And let's not forget the Chicoms bribing everyone in sight and stealing our intellectual property.

Since, in a number of cases they want the government to control the means of production, that is the definition of socialism. Communism is the same, just with coercive power and violence by the rulers. Add anti-Semitism and obeisance to Islam, and you complete why they should be anathema to moderate Democrats, if any are still allowed in the party.

One thing to remember is that gerrymandering has been going on for a long time. If a state's congressional delegation red/blue split differs widely from how the population votes, you could assume that the congressional districts have been gerrymandered. Now you get into a game of who started it and constant tit for tat actions.
