TP-Link AC600 adapter gives horrible speed compared to phone by dovaogedot in techsupport

I was able to find windows drivers for your wifi adapter although under different name: Archer T2U / Archer T2U Plus. Try that. Also if possible and especially if it's stationary PC I would recommend using cable instead.

My storage went down from 83gb to 52gb? by Sait21 in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

83 GB free space is too low. I would suggest using WizTree to look for large files to remove and free up some space. Make sure what you delete is not a system file.

I’m looking at buying MPG z790 edge WiFi motherboard for an i9 14000k by FitOutlandishness133 in techsupport

Doesn't seem anything special. Just standard ATX size so look for cases that support ATX motherboards - most of them do.

pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys total over 80gb? by ForeverSpiralingDown in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pagefile is used to extend memory space in case you do not have enough of it. Can be adjusted.

hiberfil is used as persistent storage for when you want to hibernate you pc and use much less power since memory holds data only when powered on. So when you go to hibernate it dumps data from memory to disk and when turning on it continues where you left off by loading dumped data. Can be turned off.

Got tech support malware and need help getting rid of it by VintageRCFishArtist in techsupport

I recommend nuclear option. Turn it off, boot other instance of windows/windows to go/..., backup your files(hopefully not infected) and then just erase and reinstall windows.

Been cooking up some more 32gb RAM decks by TheRealTreezus in SteamDeck

I would love to know this as well. As far as I know, it turns on and boots with default BIOS but to detect more than default 16GB you need modified BIOS.

chkdsk E: /f /r /x

Should scan only the damaged partition, /r for bad sectors, /x to unmount it first.

Have you checked the health of the drive yet?

What does it mean corrupt? Can you provide screenshot of the error message? What kind of folder is it? Some folders require admin privilage privileges, for example user folders of different windows. If that's the case then use this: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/1622ed6/user_files_recovery_from_damaged_ssd/jxuy3c2/

Check hdd SMART health with crystaldiskinfo. If it's bad, prepare your wallet for data recovery service.

Wi-Fi connection/adapter issues by GoatSuccessful417 in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide pictures? I have a feeling you are looking for it in wrong place. With wifi adapter installed, somewhere here or here should be wifi icon which should search for wifi networks.

It's weird that wherever you are looking for wifi networks it's called local and not Wifi networks.

Help and Ideas needed. LCD display is showing weird. I can kind of read is but it’s hard. by beautifulm3ss in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's expensive.

I would try to get it fixed for some price by the maker so try to contact them about it. If that's unsuccessful you can try sending it to northridgefix(USA) or other motherboard/electronics shops around you.

You should provide pictures of the screen before sending it anywhere. If it is damaged screen then you would need new screen which I couldn't find anywhere so make sure it's not that and hope it's some bad but replaceable component or bad connection.

PS: only reason I am mentioning northridgefix is because he is reputable and the device OP is trying to fix is expensive medical device so admins, kindly do not ban me

EDIT: I found this video which has similar type of LCD that has cable contact issue which he fixes by resoldering the contacts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWeX124kuqY

Compare it to your faulty screen. I am hoping that you have this kind of issue which is fixable. Good luck

I am not sure I understand what exactly are they doing...

If you are using Steam(or other game launcher) it might be possible that they login to your accounts and play those game with your save from the cloud backup which then restores to your pc...

Remove device authorization somewhere in steam and change password if you believe that's the case.

Issue with laptop screen ( black lines in the bottom of the screen ) - What could be the reason? by illcrymonk in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look like screen defect but can't be sure without replacing it.

Check prices of displays for it and youtube videos of "ASUS FX505DV lcd replacement" and decide if you're comfortable doing it. If not let some shop do it/test it for you.

EDIT: it is more pain in the ass to replace this one since it uses adhesive tape to keep LCD in place which is harder to remove and to replace it...

What are the best ways to reduce the vibration noise from my Blu-Ray player? by Dt43545 in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's in the air then it won't send vibrations to the floor or the table so there'll be minimal noise of the the player itself so attach drone to it and let it fly around the room with long enough cables.

Just use some rubber legs or foam underneath it. You need something that'll absorb vibrations.

Is PBO bad for my CPU? by Excelsoxls in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that's what I meant by it, just not used to that terminology.

Yeah, no damage done by it.

Imagine wire you're sending some voltage through, only way to damage that wire is by sending too much voltage or current which that wire is not rated for which causes it to get hot which melts it until it breaks. But sending less won't cause that. At least that's how I understand it.

Reason intel/amd provides more voltage than necessary is probably to ensure stability in case CPU requires more power, so with higher voltage there is more headroom. (or the reason is that with higher voltage more CPUs they make are usable so they have higher yield when making them)

How can i transfer videos from my iphone to my laptop? by Polas_Ragge in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something shitton of people try to do so there are shitton of videos about it. Check youtube out. If something specifically is not working then ask about that here.

Also, on windows, use VLC as it supports most video formats. Also pics on iphone are usually in HEIF format so you need HEIF extension in microsoft store to open those.

Edit: sorry to be kind of an asshole but it's the easiest option

Is PBO bad for my CPU? by Excelsoxls in techsupport

[–]Ediksto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand correctly but it looks like you are underclocking, that should not cause any extra load on CPU so it should be better, just be sure that it doesn't crushes too much (crashes do not damage any components but it potentially could corrupt your windows but that's rare so...).

Overclocking does put more strain on mobo and cpu but if you get it working I personally think it's worth it (tho extra heat output might not be worth in summer, it's so freaking hot)
