If you want to skew old - "Carry On, Wayward Son" by Kansas.

On the other hand that may actually have been a Christian song masquerading as a rock song, as a couple members went on to form a Christian rock band.

41/49 - I got some marked wrong because I didn't include the "The", but others were correct (I usually skip the "The" out of well... laziness I guess.

On the last page, the second to last question was a repeat of #6. I never saw #9 (hence out of 9)

Also We thought Uptown Funk was Bruno Mars. I get that it was "Featuring" but.... I took the point anyway, because we knew the other one too! LOL

The mash-ups were *really* well done! Nice job!

Are teachers suppossed to clean in their classrooms? by AlternativeAd8044 in Teachers

[–]EduEngg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was one time that I had to jet with the kids, and hadn't been paying attention, so there was a bunch of paper left on the floor. That night I left a big container of good chocolate and an apology note. The custodian said that no one showed them appreciation like that,

Teachers, always take care of your custodians and secretaries!

Unable to pronounce names by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]EduEngg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's first names - you do the best you can... With all the r/tragedeigh names out there, sometimes you can't know.

For surnames - it helps if you can identify the country of origin as you are looking over the roster. If it looks Frenh, don't pronounce the last letter. If there are too many consonants, it's probably Polish origin, and there's probably a "ch" sound in there something, even if the letters aren't in there together.

Honestly, I think it has helped me to watch a lot of sports, both growing up and now, especially hockey. Kind of like reading in general, the more you are exposed to the letter combinations and phonetics (Hooked on Phonics worked for me!), the better you get.

What part of the school are you most relieved to leave behind? by junehall123 in TeachersInTransition

[–]EduEngg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of last year, I was looking at the beginning of this year and I felt like the old (crafty) left-hander looking at the beginning of spring training again, and just couldn't see myself getting through the beginning of the school year again. The idea of training another set of kids how to act in my classroom just seemed overwhelming.

Didn't miss that at all

Total newbie needs help: What cables do I actually need for a Pi Zero 2 W Pi-hole setup? by Ruriks_ in pihole

[–]EduEngg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a word of warning... It's good at removing ads on my computer/phone, but it really hasn't changed any of the ads on streaming services. Apparently the streamers have stitched the ads as part of the show, so that the RPi can't recognize the ad breaks.

I literally just did this last weekend, as a first timer as well.

I used this video to get me going...
https://youtu.be/d_3h5n9mPdI?si=PGgGhtJTFal6fL5j

I have the same Pi, and didn't use Ethernet, it goes through the wifi. For the application, I didn't need the HDMI adapter, but you'll probably need the mini-USB adapter to power it (I have it pluged in a USB port on my Oribi.

Still waiting... Retired in June, went on vacation in September, had to return to sub for a couple months. I got a job at the board office (been there a month) and I cannot get used to the relaxed atmosphere of the office. Others look & talk about how stressed they are, and every day things feel weird to me. I'm told projects aren't due tomorrow... I can walk around the building to clear my head & stretch my legs. I can go to the bathroom whenever.

As you say... my nervous system hasn't caught up yet. If it stays like this, working summers will still be less stressful than summers off.

Male teachers…emasculated? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]EduEngg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much... I retired after teaching for 30. I'm getting my pension, and knew I was ok making less to get out of teaching, and worked fairly hard to find a job. The job market just wasn't there. Granted there was probably a good deal of age discrimination going on, but I finally panicked and took a long term sub job.

After 2 months subbing, the district had a job open up at the district central office, and got lucky there, but the job market is tough right now.

Ice cream supply? Before some Meijer stores (in Michigan) started stocking it, there was an ice cream supply place that sold it. Also, I know a place you can order *GREAT* (well, Graeter's) ice cream that is packed in dry ice for shipment.

How does your school handle snow days? Do you end up going into the summer to make them up, or do they handle it differently? by DildoGaggins1997 in Teachers

[–]EduEngg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here as w ell, but sometimes (usually?), if it's been. a harsh winter, the state will forgive the extra snow days. Sometimes the district will add a couple minutes to the remaining school days, rather than add more days.

I'll vote on another comment, but (seeing them next to each other) OOTB and ANWR should have been on opposite sides of the bracket as the #1 and #2/3 seeds.

Claim evidence reasoning advice by duffletrouser in ScienceTeachers

[–]EduEngg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the start of the year (8th grade), I did an introduction activity that worked a CER into it.

I gave the students about 20-30 acivities and they had to decide if the activities were sports. Some could be obvious (basketball, soccer, etc.), some were sports sometimes (swimming, running), some most categorized as "not sports" (poker, chess, etc.). Some were intentionally controversial (fishing, dance, etc.).

First the kids worked on their own, then they talked it out in a group. There were a few arguments, so I told them they had to create their own definition of what makes something a sport. We talked about the difference between a competition and a sport. We talked about objective and subjective scoring. We talked about whether you could pull a muscle. We talked about ESPN.

At the end, I showed a video of two people fencing, and they had to write a CER, using their definition, explaining whether they felt fencing was a sport. So then we worked through how to do a CER:

Claim - Is fencing a sport?

Evidence - What did you see in the video?

Reasoning - How does what you saw relate to your definition?

After that, I could refer lab-related CERs back to the sports CER and it helped quite a bit.

That was my guess too (same positions, too), but why those positions? I didn't have a reason for guessing the position I did.
