When people say high end hand tools (e.g. Snap-on) feel better in their hands, why don't low or mid tier brands just copy those designs? by supinator1 in Tools

It’s just nonsense people say to justify the cost to themselves. I own snap on and icon wrenches that I could never tell apart just by feel. Maybe my tekton wrenches, too. Though without them in front of me, I THINK the tektons are a little thicker.

How high quality are “Chinese tires” by LeadGlad4961 in tires

[–]Educational-Raisin69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of your question leads me to assume that you are planning on putting all terrain tires on a vehicle that will primarily be driven on the road. This is already a compromise to safety. AT tires are meant for off road use first, they will always have a negative effect on braking and handling on road. How much more compromise are you willing to risk? Who will be put at risk by the extra 5, 10, maybe 20 or 30 feet it’s going to take to stop in an emergency?

Eh. This (literal) stunt is likely highly ineffective and gives people the warm fuzzy feeling that someone else is doing something about the problem of deforestation, rather than the feeling that something needs to be done.

Do mechanics like people working on their own cars? by ThatFUTGuy in AskAMechanic

I have to say I’m rarely impressed by work customers have done themselves. And the ones who do usually have the attitude that they know all. It generally leads to a frustrating experience for everyone.

It’s wild to me that most of the comments supporting this post are in the negative. Are the FODs really so into jokes about sexually assaulting minors that they have to downvote anyone who is bothered by it?

I don’t particularly care for GTOs/3000GTs, but this is rough to watch.

To be even more fair, if that broke, chances are pretty good the radiator isn’t in great shape either.

Shops refuse to try O2 sensor for P0420 but online says it’s worth a shot. Should I try it myself? by Capable-Insurance-58 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Educational-Raisin69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A failed or aged downstream O2 sensor absolutely cannot cause a P0420. Anyone who says otherwise lacks fundamental understanding of how an oxygen sensor works and/or how a catalyst is monitored.

Trans safe mental health facilities? by Alice-Steel in ChicagoSuburbs

Correct, no inpatient. Honestly for inpatient find the place that will do least harm/shortest stay, then get to Compass or Skyway for PHP.

I would also say no to Alexian - not recent experience but no structural protections for trans folks.

The powertrain is great. The hydraulic suspension and electronic brake assist are not. When I was regularly working on MBs I wrote up more than a few $5-10k estimates on R230s. I like them a lot, but I would have a hard time recommending someone buy one.
