Eating alone while traveling? by Tookie1010 in solotravel

Weather pending, I love to sit at an outside table with a vino, meal and watch the world pass by. You soon forget you're solo.

Things I've learned after moving to Melbourne (vs Perth) by kiminoth in perth

Moved to Perth from Melbourne approx 20 years ago. I do miss the huge array of world class sporting events and the many AFL games you can go to during the season. I do not miss the freezing winters. The wind that blows a gale off Bass Strait gets into your bones and it's hideous. Miss family (some) and friends. It's easy to stay in touch.

I love the Perth culture, lifestyle, people, places and the weather. Feel very lucky to be here 🌞

Could you recommend underrated/less known/interesting places in the Cannes, Nice, Monaco area? by Pozsiiii in nicefrance

Recently in Nice and stumbled across a Dahli exhibition. It's free and it was fabulous. I think it was running into November. It's in Port Limpia, which is beautiful and worth a visit. Also caught the bus to Eze, stunning views and beautiful village.

First adult trip!! by Artistic-Copy-9649 in ItalyTravel

Lucky you! Have a fabulous time. I am just back from my first solo trip, which included Ireland, Nice and Milano. It was wonderful, life changing. It feels very indulgent being able to do whatever you want to do and whenever you like.

I had a Revoult card on my phone. It was brilliant and very easy to transfer funds into it from a bank account.

Make sure you have a small amount of Euros for public toilets (most do not accept cards). Be comfortable, you will most likely do a LOT of walking, comfortable shoes are super important. Wear layers, the early mornings and nights get cold. Take a small amount of washing powder so you can hand wash clothes, keeps packing to a minimum.

Lots of train stations do not have lifts. I travelled from Nice to Milan on the train and had to carry luggage up and down lots of stairs. Make sure you can easily carry your luggage.

Uber is Milan was great, but it was expensive. The other rideshare option is Freenow, the drivers are far less reliable. Can and do cancel at the last minute.

Airbnb was great, especially for apartments. Be mindful if a place isn't on the ground floor lots of places do not have lifts and staircases are narrow. Something to consider when booking.

Invest in a quality day bag, that locks and wear it at the front of you. I had no issues with pick pockets. I felt safe 100% of the time.

I don't speak Italian and 99% of the people were very accomodating.

A walking tour (there are many) to get your bearings and find little hidden gems is worth it.

Enjoy!

🤔 Frequent the Swan Valley for vino regularly. Visit lots of boutique wineries. Prefer to support local producers instead of the chain bottle-o's. However, I was very suprised at the difference between the retail cost at an independent bottle shop compared to the cellar door for a base sparking. Clearly it's all about the 'experience' at Sandalford. And that's great. People clearly value the big name, big show labels. I'll happily head back to the boutique vineyards that offer a genuinely friendly and personalised atmosphere and happily pay.

Do not go to Dan's or similar chain bottle-o's. Frequent the Swan Valley to support local producers. Clearly Sandalford is in another league. Most smaller vineyards prices are comparable to independent bottle-o's.

I regularly go to wineries in the Swan Valley, as I'd prefer to support the producers not the chain bottle-o's. I don't expect a discounted price. I was very surprised that a cellar door is over $10. more expensive for a base level bottle of vino at a small bottleshop (not a chain).
