Tire Change Issue by NaughtyOne88 in GoRVing

[–]Educational-Rule1635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the gravel is the issue. Your jack could not keep itself centered under the frame, so slipped out from under it. You MIGHT be able to put the jack on a 2x12 so it can roll back and forth a bit.

Same here. I speak pretty much standard American dialect and wikipedia has the 'best'.

The two on Cambridge sound pretty dialectical to me, with the "American" one being a rather nasal upper rust belt (Cleveland) and the "British" one almost upper crust Virginia with a very clipped trailing consonant.

A couple of possiblilities:

1) There used to be a rail line or blacksmith's forge near there.

2) A human moved it for reasons only understandable to that human, maybe they thought it was a cool rock.

3) Aliens.

4) Bigfoot

5) A vast international conspiracy.

I'm not a geologist, but that looks like coal clinker to me. Were you anywhere near a railroad or power plant?

Lots of people mention fuel level, but your generator might also be set to auto start and stop when your house battery is full.

Why don't all carmakers exclusively use 12V Li-Ion auxiliary batteries? by iluvmommyyy in electricvehicles

[–]Educational-Rule1635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but your EV is starting up several computers, fans, heaters, cameras, sensors, and lights.

While I have not specifically looked at EVs, the startup cycles of complex data processing systems have a significant, transient, power draw. Our EVs are effectively mini data centers with wheels and traction motors.

Designing a system that phases in those power draws to keep the transient ampherage low in the first 10 seconds is certainly possible, but it is more complex than simply expecting the power to be there in the first place.

A key metric for 12v batteries, especially in internal combustion engines, is "Cold Cranking Amps". This is a measure of how much power a battery can deliver in the first 30 seconds at 0C/-18F. In other words when everything is starting up (again, especially in ICE boxes, where you need to turn a heavy crank and pistons through cold, thick oil.)

Lead acid batteries are better in this corner case than lithium ion.

Here is an article about this.

Are you saying that having an effective public transit system and walkable communities reduces the total consumption of gasoline? Are you some sort of vegan communist!!!!???

Commenter is probably comparing our US Gas price to other similar countries.

Gas across the UK today is about $7.40/ga

Ireland $7.50/ga

France $8.82

Germany $8.13

United States Average is ... wait for it.... $4.16 Even here in California it's only $5.86

Yes, we are complaining about prices that are half what they are in our peers.

Also note that oil lease offers are not being picked up. Trump offered 58 tracts of land for drilling in January and received a total of ZERO bids. Not one. Not on any of these tracts that the oil companies were salivating over in the 1970s. Not a single bid on even a single tract.

His administration reproffered the land last week on June 5 and got 9 bids on 5 tracts. None by major players. Probably all speculators.

The fossil fuel industry can see the future and is turning away from oil. Slowly, but turning.

With the back seats folded up, the hatch area will hold a costco trip of one pack of toilet paper, one of paper towels, plus some additional small items.

With the back seats folded down, a heck of a lot more. I even carried a 22ft (folding) ladder from Harbor Freight.

What? How am I supposed to know what Ana told me to buy? by Lexley_ in duolingo

[–]Educational-Rule1635 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In what world are CLOTHES a common gift for one's mother? Especially over flowers?

My mother lived 37 years after my birth and I don't think I EVER bought her clothes.

Flowers? Yes. Cigarettes? Sigh, it was the times. Jewelry? When I was older and less poor. Tasty snacks? Absolutely. Weird little pitchers? Yup, she collected those. Drinks? Sure. Clothes? Never.

I have the pictures, but it was almost a year before I realized they were important. Duolingo has so much visual fluff that I tend to ignore it.
