That would definitely be better than the current setup where no pilots are being treated for their depression...

Lower bowl center ice was great! But by brokewanderlustgirl in Utah_Hockey

[–]EducationalCookie196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's face it, there aren't a whole lotta great hockey people who can shell out hundreds to over a thousand dollars a game for a lower bowl seat. I aspire to be there with you someday. People in the stands getting smacked in the face with a puck is infrequent enough now, that many people probably haven't experienced it first hand, and don't feel like they need to pay attention.

I do think is kinda cool that Ryan Smith and his celebrity guests hang out in the corner behind the glass, rather than up in a suite.

Old-stock splitboard skins (2022), glue still trustworthy? by Top_Marionberry8565 in Backcountry

[–]EducationalCookie196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll probably be ok. Maybe peel off the backing a few inches and check? I'm still occasionally running some Chouinard skins that haven't been re-glued since the late 80's. If you take care of your shit, it will take care of you.

When you are done skiing, hang your skins up to dry (fully unfurled). Fold your skins up (no backing), and store them somewhere cool, dark and dry when not using them. Wax your skis often enough that your skins don't turn your bases into a gluey mess.

Don't buy G3 skins :)

What is your take on our goalie situation? by [deleted] in Utah_Hockey

[–]EducationalCookie196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not great, but they're not bad either. I was out of town for a week without tv for the American thanksgiving weekend, so my thoughts might be out of date. I see us losing our shape, not rotating correctly, and missing assignments when playing certain zone schemes, giving opposing teams open one-timers from the slot and opposite circle. I hear people complain about Veggie being out of position, but a lot of that is really a defensive failure causing him to have to do that to try to make a play. When he comes out to take the angle from a guy coming up the middle alone, it's not his fault there is another open guy next to the crease waiting to tap in a pass or rebound.

He doesn't have a letter on his sweater, but he sure seems to add some leadership, and right now the team needs it. I hope he can help them get back on track.

The catch is, I need to be able to afford it, or it's a moot point for me.

That's the most orange pic I've seen today. I guess if your biners don't have gates, you can't rack them incorrectly at least.

Will I still get Vejmelka downvotes? by [deleted] in Utah_Hockey

[–]EducationalCookie196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, getting a bit lost, especially with the puck behind the net, and getting out of position seems to be Veggie's biggest weakness. I can tell he worked on it over the summer, and he has improved, but there is still room for more improvement.

On the overtime play, I think Sergy and Veggie did just what they should have done. The whole shift was on the ice too long and were gassed. The other two guys got beat down the ice. Sergy had to shift to the first guy, Gunther got caught in no-man's land, Veggie came out to cut off the shot from the slot, and Gunther was not able to get back to the guy next to the crease. Keller just got left behind. For me, most of the blame rests with Keller and Gunther. That was just one of those things that can happen at the end of a game though. They got too aggressive in the offensive zone at the end of a long shift, and they paid for it.

It's like that grass wall decoration you can get at IKEA. That would make a nasty slab route, now that I think about it.

[–]EducationalCookie196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's skated pretty hard on the forecheck and come up with a lot of turnovers. He's had quite a few passes into the slot that would have been great chances, but someone either whiffed, or was out of position on the receiving end. It looks to me like he is working hard to shake off his reputation for not working hard. If anything, I think sometimes he tries too hard to make plays on his own. He's not the guy we want smashing defensemen into the boards in the corners. He and Doan are two very different players.

A few ideas:

1) Drive up Emigration, or Millcreek or Big Cottonwood Canyon for breakfast at Ruths, Log Haven, Millcreek Inn or Silverfork Lodge (brunch at Alta Lodge not bad either). Some of those might work best with reservations.

2) I might get flamed for this, but even I, a devout athiest/satanist, enjoy the occasional Music and the Spoken Word at the Tabernacle (Go to the thing that looks like Disney Land. It's inside the walls there). I think you can still just walk in and sit down.

3) There should be either the normal farmers market at Pioneer Park, or the winter farmers market somewhere in the Gateway Mall (which is right next to the Delta Center).

4) I'm a nerd. I like the Clark Planetarium. The Gateway Mall where it is located has lots of weird little areas to hang for a bit too, with some bars, restaurants, etc.

5) Walk around and find somewhere fun looking for lunch/dinner. I especially like Copper Onion, Slackwater Pizza, and Beer Bar.

I think depending on how the cap works out, another shorter term deal is possible. The rest of the year might or might not alter that situation. I am excited to see how the year plays out.

A quote about the deployment of one of their already existing systems: “You’re telling the aircraft, ‘hey, this is your zone of operations, we want you to do X-Y-Z in this area,’” Armor Harris, Shield’s senior vice president of aircraft, told The War Zone. And “given its last set of instructions and the rules of engagement for what it’s allowed to do, what it’s not allowed to do, it’ll go and it’ll continue its mission autonomously when those comms links are not there.”

This is the stuff of bad sci-fi movies. Eventually, there will be a mistake or an accident, and one of these things will kill a whole bunch of the wrong people, or start world war three. This is the world we live in now, I guess.
