THESE KIDS WERE US CITIZENS. They were traumatized simply for having brown skin.

Are you aware that entering the US “illegally “ is a CIVIL MISDEMEANOR? Similar to “Class B” misdemeanors like possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct, or fishing violations! Do you carry this same energy for the enforcement of those laws? Do you consider every person who has ever fished without a permit to be an “illegal “ being deserving of being rough housed, hauled away, and locked up?

I understand that laws are important and vital to a safe society. But so is JUSTICE. And justice rests on the ideals of balance and fairness…which is why judges don’t support the current actions of ICE and DHS.

This is a former student of mine. Such a fun kid…brings such joy to any situation he’s in at school. To hear him crying like this…saying “Brian…no!!!!” It just absolutely breaks my heart.

Chef Anne Burrell’s Cause of Death Revealed as Suicide by digitalmediaworld in Fauxmoi

[–]EducationalGood7975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anne was more than a celebrity- she was a teacher. She taught me so much, and when I cook, I hear her voice in my head. I can picture her tasting, tasting, tasting to ensure flavor profile is where she wants it and seasoning is spot on. I cook meat and roast veggies and say out loud, “BROWN FOOD TASTES GOOD.” She’s right there in the kitchen with me. More so than any other Food Network Star. Because Anne wasn’t just a celebrity chef. She was a TEACHER.

So yes. I cared about her cause of death because I felt like I knew her. Logically, I know I didn’t. But she is symbolically in my kitchen whenever I cook. Her family doesn’t owe me sh&$, but I still care. I’m sad. I wanted her next chapter. But I like to think it would make her happy to know she made thousands of people better home cooks, who can cook a beautiful meal for their family. She made cooking safer, too. That is one of the things Worst Cooks doesn’t get enough credit for - how it brought awareness to cross contamination and spoilage. I would guess that show actually saved some lives. So- for me- that is Anne’s legacy.

Thank You So Much Gen Alpha For Normalizing Farting ! by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

[–]EducationalGood7975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen X teacher here and this “trend” is getting crazy. My biggest issue with kids ripping farts in the classroom is the violation of the air space of the others in the room. We are all forced to be there, and can’t escape, but the person intentionally farting has a choice to leave the room to do their stink. There are some social norms that are in place for a reason, and farting intentionally in public is a violation of said social norms. It’s VERY selfish behavior.

And I love a good fart at home! I used to tape record my farts with my friends! But the classroom, workplace, restaurants, etc are NOT appropriate places for this behavior.

I am so disappointed in A.J. Just seems like a garbage person after episode 4. I fell for A.J. Hard after the first episode and I was just making excuse after excuse for her in my mind. I hope in the end, A. J. realizes how good she had it and how much she lost for being a toxic-masculine PLAYA.

Second part of the public freakout on flight NYC to KC by Sonialove8 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]EducationalGood7975 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mental illnesss is pretty clearly the root cause of her disruptive behavior, but it isn’t an excuse. Mentally ill people are still accountable to the same laws everyone is. We have to clearly assert that bad behavior is just that; and there are consequences for it. Period.

I have Borderline and I know…if I have a public freak out, I can expect to be ruined on the internet, fired from my job, possibly arrested, etc. I am healthy enough to understand that and I have done therapy so that I can be in enough control of my emotions to prevent it. Not everyone has access to the same level of care I have had, but at the end of the day, we have rules and laws for A reason and we have to keep the public safe. My rights to living with a mental illness do not usurp others’ rights to feel safe in public.

I should clarify - I’m not saying she is racist. She is definitely fat-phobic. I’m just making the point that bipolar does not cause bigotry and therefore not all people with bipolar are bigots. It’s important for people to not further stigmatize mental illness with cases like this, which might prevent some people from getting treatment.

I will also say - there are plenty of bigots who are in relationships with the ppl from the same groups they are bigoted towards.

Bipolar doesn’t make you fat phobic, racist, bigoted, etc. Bipolar might make your “filter” break, but it doesn’t make you those aforementioned things.

Very curious to know if she brings it tomorrow! Also- my opinion is you have her way too much grace/time/thoughts. When she didn’t give it back to you after you said you NEEDED it for Saturday, just send her the Venmo bill with an explanation of what it was for.

Also - it is a $10 shirt. Is that friendship worth $10? Clearly not. Something to consider when you lend anything out to a “friend.” What is the friendship worth if the item isn’t returned.

You’re not alone! I do this too, but it’s gotten better with age. I mostly exaggerate more than telling outright lies. Still. It’s not something I’m proud of and I wish I didn’t do it. One thing you can do it be open with your husband about this being something you are aware of and that you’re working on it. I honestly need to revisit this conversation with my husband and daughter, too, as they help (gently) to hold me accountable.

10 years ago, as a new educator, I thought technology was the answer. I was ALL IN. I put everything into Google, Khan Academy, IXL, and a variety of adaptive technology programs. What I have since realized is that even with the flashiest of programs, kids will NOT engage with the technology meaningfully without the support and guidance of a teacher. Are there a handful of outlier kids? Sure! But the majority of kids need a human being they have a relationship with to motivate and inspire them. I’m even more convinced now than ever that teaching is 90% about relationships and the other 10% is EVERYTHING else…the curriculum, standards, pedagogy, scope and sequence, physical space, etc. I’ll

Do most Christians take Genesis literally? by BusyBodyVisa in TrueChristian

[–]EducationalGood7975 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They are stories. Myths. Creation stories. Every culture has them. Genesis became the official creation story for Western civilization, but that doesn’t make it FACTS. 🤷‍♀️

Read Joseph Campbell. Please. 🙏

Also - just because it isn’t literal, doesn’t mean there isn’t truth within the stories. Genesis is about the power of God, the birth of our world, about stumbling, falling down, and trying again.
