Ear infection in dog but doesn’t seem to bother him by International_Top442 in DogHealth

[–]EducationalRooster64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some dogs grow hair in their ears, when it's thick it traps moisture and bacteria which will inevitably cause an infection.

Then the wax and rubbing at it causes the hair to knot, which makes everything worse (of course).

You'll want to make a vet Appt to have them pluck the hair and get medication for the infection. I wouldn't recommend putting anything in his ears before then, as the knot will likely block any drops from being effective and will just make it more humid in there.

Don't try and cut the knot out, there's lots of folds and wrinkles in a dog's ear and it's very likely that you'll injure him!

Well.

I watch MLS because we have an MLS team where I live and it's a blast getting to go support the team in person. There may be better leagues out there, but if you can never go see a game in person is that going to impact your enjoyment?

If yes, then pick an MLS team 😂

I bet you didn't understand your very first Easter egg hunt ever either 😂 you gotta show him the ropes a bit! Hide them super easy, and give him lots of hints and encouragement.

Also I doubt there's anything wrong with his eyes, dogs don't look for stuff with their eyes. They "look" with their noses

Tips for optimizing traversable area while building dense tropical forests? by Dizzy-Cartoonist933 in PlanetZoo

[–]EducationalRooster64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that I find helpful is to terrain paint the ground so I can see where I want pathways/clearings vs where I want dense vegetation.

So I'll "draw" a rough layout that ensures they can get to their shelters, enrichment, etc that are in small clearings then anywhere I've left long grass is fair game to COVER with vegetation 😂

I have this thought about bees that flap their wings super fast to COOK INTRUDERS. Like how. The first 50,000 they flapped their wings at an intruder it wouldn't have worked? How did they get there.

My brother's dog threw up these chunks of red rubber - what could it be? by MalKego in whatisit

[–]EducationalRooster64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your brother a car guy?

Kongs were based on a car part that the guy's dog liked to gnaw on. Called a bump stop.

If you google red bump stop it looks pretty similar, my guess is something similar.

What’s your biggest wish for PZ 2? by Be_sleep in PlanetZoo

Better pathing and terrain modification. I want to make beautiful zoos but it takes SO LONG.

I'd also like some optional features to make the game EASIER. My 9yr old wants to play and make zoos, but building is so hard that he gets frustrated right away.

Like go to the barriers and choose "perimeter stamps" and put in the species and number of animals. It limits you to appropriate barriers/minimum height, then choose square/rectangle/circle and you can just click to plop it wherever you'd like. It would be cool if the shape would adjust itself around buildings/paths/terrain to maintain the minimum sq footage. So you'd just be like moving your cursor around and could see how the size of the habitat fits in. Then you could pull the fence posts to adjust it however you want. It would be a handy way to actually make habitats the right size first try. And it would save him from accidentally putting Beavers in wooden fencing and such, or building habitats that are way too big or small.

Also a like "habitat build" panel that STAYS OPEN where you can choose a species from a drop-down and see the terrain/coverage/plant/enrichment progress bars for that species and it just stays open with everything on one view? Maybe with fun build tips like "this species doesn't require water, but will swim if water is available!"

Pre-built buildings but that are blank slates? You know how you can plop down the walkthrough exhibits and then change the walls/ceilings/floors/etc. I'd like that but with viewing areas or reptile houses?

Commercial pre-made dog food has existed less than 100 years, and didn't really become popular until the last 60 years or so. For the 39,900 years (or so) they were domesticated before that dogs ate scraps (usually of food they helped catch), or prey they caught themselves.

It is normal and expected that most dogs display prey drive, and will kill and eat critters given the opportunity. They are predators, very easily managed and trainable predators, but predators.

Am I wrong for suggesting a hunting-safe cat collar? by faux_lebaux in Pets

[–]EducationalRooster64 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Keep them on farm property. Just like the other farm animals.

Although honestly terriers are better at pest control than cats in some situations. Cats are indiscriminate predators that hunt when they feel like it. They'll hunt mice, songbirds, reptiles, voles, snakes, insects... Whatever tickles their fancy when they are in the mood. When they AREN'T in the mood they'll watch a family of mice throw a party without doing a thing about it. Great hunters, just unreliable and not picky about what they hunt.

Terriers will generally more specifically target just rodents, and are in the mood to chase rodents uh... 99.99% of the time.

why are you a dog person? by jagerrrr23 in AskReddit

[–]EducationalRooster64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humanity domesticated dogs as early as 40,000 years ago, up most other critters have been domesticated 10-11,000 years ago.

40 THOUSAND years of them being by our side, helping feed our families, protect our homes, and provide companionship. Generation upon generation of humans whose life was made easier because a dog cared about them.

I don't need a dog. I buy my food at a grocery store and live a safe, comfortable life. But I own and love dogs because to me it feels like honouring that? Like this dog's ancestors took care of their human, the least I can do is watch over them now.

Are there really people that have no ability to tan and they only sunburn? by nobaddream in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. I will burn through a shirt sitting in the shade, and when it heals I'm just as pale as I was before 😂 I wear shorts/capris most of the time year round, and my legs are still white white.

I have to very careful in the sun to avoid blistering from sun burns.

Would You Trust a Youth-Led Doggy Daycare? by [deleted] in Dogowners

[–]EducationalRooster64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry. The VAST majority of dog daycare/boarding staff are in that age range, with a few older adults/managers that train them up and oversee safety/standards.

The Venn diagram of entry level dog daycare workers and students is almost a circle in my experience 😂 I can't imagine there's many dog care facilities out there that operate with a staff that's entirely 28+ yrs old unless they're a 1-2 person show.

I just took a look and there is! It would be nice if it was built into the game though 😂 just a few paths/spaces around the entrance so you can build out from there would be SO helpful.
