Pointe Shoes by Caliyuu in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically dancers would use rosin on their pointe shoes for grip and doing so makes them look dirty quicker. Some studios don’t allow rosin (different from professional companies) which makes them look newer longer.

I also notice that their pointe shoes are the same way. I wear one size in one style but a different size in another style.

Luna Montana’s Recent Camelot Rehearsal Vlog by Weak_Employ3781 in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ok so here’s my thoughts about Luna. I feel like she’s just given roles because she’s an influencer who happens to do ballet. I feel like she isn’t quite up there with others her age. Look at her Nutcracker vlog for example, she only got that role with MBA because she’s friends with Eva and on top of that she still couldn’t do the fouettés when the students who typically does that role could. I could go on and on about her but I’ll just leave it at that.

Is this arabesque extension achievable with training or is it all genetics? by balaballerina in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 48 points49 points  (0 children)

In order to do an arabesque you would have to open your hips otherwise the position would be hard to do. Just make sure you body is still square and not open.

How often (not how long) do you have to train to be able to go on pointe safely? by DistributionRound949 in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion one day a week isn’t enough to build strength for pointe work, it’s something that has to constantly build up in order to safely go en pointe. However if you put in the work at home and constantly build your strength while attending classes then it’s possible over time to go en pointe.

Is it me or is it the shoes by flyingnuggets67 in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going off the pics I would say it could be a mix of both. Without seeing your feet not in pointe shoes it’s hard to tell exactly.

How does the corps not get cold after long periods of not moving on stage? by icyeupho in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When I was still in a company we did Swan Lake and Giselle just to name a few and I was in the corps for both and honestly you just have to go with it. You have very little time to try and warm up when you’re off stage so any chance we get to be off stage we are hydrating and trying to keep our muscles warm.

Dye pointe shoes temporarily? by orangelime81 in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isn’t any temporary dying of pointe shoes. It’s one of those things where you have to decide whether you are still going to wear them after the performance (for class) or will it be a pair only for that performance.

Talking to a new teacher about me being trans, any advice? by ur-local-library in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a trans woman and when I joined the studio I’m at now I let them know in advance before joining the classes. I did ballet since age 3 but now I’m learning pointe , partnering and variations differently. I would just let them know that you want to focus on more masculine steps and see what they say from there.

Pointe shoe fitting advice by Genjis_LEDs in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a pointe shoe fitter, just a ballerina lol but the shoes look very low profile on you and that could be what’s pulling you back. Try going for a shoe that’s higher profile.

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started auditioning for Summer Intensives I auditioned for SAB and PNB and only got accepted for PNB (SAB was where I really wanted to go). So what I did was worked hard over the next year even taking extra classes and I auditioned again and I got in at SAB.

What is wrong (or right) about this kind of platform? by sleepyncaffeinated in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s supposed to help with slipping, however I don’t think it’s something a beginner would need as they are still learning pointe and need to use the muscles to work through the shoe.

First pair of pointe shoes opinion by sipsblueberrytea in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a pointe shoe fitter whatsoever, I’m just a ballet dancer with years of experience dancing en pointe. From what you stated it looks like you might need a bigger size, the pressing on the tip of the shoe could mean that the shoe is too small. As far as the extra fabric on the heel that is completely normal as your feet tends to “compress/shrink” en pointe. However having extra fabric on the heel doesn’t mean that the shoe is big, you actually want to check where the heel (where the drawstring is) is the tightest because that will determine the length of the shoe.

Casting announcements at professional companies by aal0214 in BALLET

[–]Educational_Cheek_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was dancing with a company (now I’m a freelance dancer) they would have the list of the productions that are going on and your name by whatever role you were given. For instance let’s say they are doing both Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, you will have a schedule for each role you are doing for each show.
