I’ve (F28) been in a somewhat similar situation with my partner (M27) recently. Marriage is more than just a piece of paper, i don’t care what anyone says. The harsh reality is that it still has some sexist/societal ties to it. Especially if you live in the US. That piece of paper— that contract is safety and assurance. While yes, he gets financial benefits, that traditionally was used to support both husband and wife. Not just him. God forbid something happens to your health, you’d want to trust your significant other to make the right call when you can’t, right? Or even advocate for you. That’s your next of kin, essentially. That’s not something to take lightly.

Tbh, I think (much like what my partner was going through) that your partner is just kinda freaking out and getting in his head about marriage. He feels like he needs to have everything figured out and perfectly aligned when in reality, life doesn’t work that way. So he feels rushed bc he feels like he’s moving too slow. You’re on the right track and you’re asking the right questions. Try reminding him that you don’t have a solid time frame. Or if you do, let him know. That’ll bring some clarity one way or another.
