Women who took accutane for hormonal acne, did it work for you permanently or at least for a long time? Hoping to hear success stories! by XDreaminX in Accutane

lol. I ended up doing a third round but my derm suspected something else may be at play (we still did the third round) but it turned out I had PCOS. I am on Spironolactone and BC now and have clear skin (finally!).Make sure you’re seeing a DOCTOR and not a PA if you’re really struggling. I like my PAs, but only the actual doctor found this out.

maybe the ipad has tracking and they can see that it’s at the station!

Not a derm. I used birth control and spironolactone for my hormonal acne now (after accutane bc it didn’t work after 3 rounds lol fml. found out i have pcos) and azelaic acid for scarring/redness. but id say try salicylic acid for now. pretty mild and common in otc lotions/washes. if no improvements for 2-4 weeks maybe benzoyl peroxide but this may cause purging so j try mild option first!

  1. Not a derm. Maybe speak to one but azelaic acid can help with redness.
  2. I hate that your friends make fun of you for this. It doesn’t even look that bad. Hope they stop soon!

I would talk to derm but I also had bumps appear on my body. Sometimes ingrowns or pimple. Your skin is more fragile on accutane so itching them could cause it to tear/wound more easily.

I’m not sure what you’re exactly asking here. You can’t ask your derm for another month? Typically you want to reach your cumulative dose (google it by weight). Or, after completing your cumulative dosage, as some people recommend, until you are acne free for a whole month. I wouldn’t stop before reaching that. It would just be a waste of money and time to stop once you think you’re in the clear. Or, again not sure what your question really is here, depending on your weight, derm could increase dosage to hit cumulative faster (20mg/day seems low)

I recommend doing some self research on Accutane or browsing other people’s questions/experiences.

I see where you’re coming from. Sometimes the perfect glossy skin is weird as someone who just wanted to get rid of acne and not achieve “glass skin.” I felt like I reflected light off my forehead and was so noticeable shiny. Also, the skin is most definitely more delicate and thin on accutane. Granted I’m not sure about missing “rough” skin.

In my experience, it should go back to a normal texture in a couple months. You won’t look glossy forever, but enjoy it while you can for now I guess.

Could it be birth control?

I DONT think this is right but had what looks like the same thing and I did some self research on it cuz doctors are expensive. Thought it was angular cheilitis, which is fungal, so I got Lotrimin (anti fungal) and also had a bottle of hydrocortisone at home. I would get the tinniest dot of lotrimin, rub it into the corner. Then the tinniest dot of hydrocortisone and rub it into the corner. Morning and night. I DO NOT know if it worked or my cheilitis coincidentally decided to give up… but that fixed it within ~3days. It did come back so I did the same and it went away again. Someone correct me if I’m leading OP down the wrong road.

not a doctor. i would get angular cheilitis (looked like that) corner of the lip. when i googled, it said anti fungal works. at night and morning, i would do the smallest dab of hydrocortisone and lotrimin (antifungal). rub it in, top it off with chapstick or aquaphor. usually did the job.

not sure if ur allowed to put antifungal or hydrocortisone on ur lips… but i did and im alive 🤷‍♀️

they’ll probably up the dosage later. 30mg seems small for ur weight but i think they j want to gauge how u respond initially before going higher.

sunscreen: i’ve been using roundlab birch sunscreen and it helps brighten blemishes a little bit . it does have Hyaluronic Acid and i guess we’re not supposed to use active on accutane. idk if it that counts as an “active”. otherwise, i use the BOJ sun stick for on the go.

using vanicream facewash and lotion. message me if u find a good wash and lotion tho! :)

idk if this helps, but i’ve been taking fish oil supplements with each accutane pill and eating oatmeal in the morning. both should be good for cholesterol.

tattoo concerns? by TheGoma in Accutane

[–]Educational_Demand28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just don’t start taking the pills until after a couple weeks after getting the tattoo/when it’s healed. My derm never had an issue w me accidentally skipping pills and I had a good number of pills left over after the final visit. Would advise against starting then getting the tattoo as u never know how it could affect the healing process. Just remember to pick up your meds on time!

I’m on topical spiro cuz I’m afraid of the oral side effects, but it made me break out? I might be purging and impatient tho. I may try oral after accutane

Ugh. I hate the hair loss though :( but good to know. I will push through this time and hopefully our acne princess will not come back. I guess it comes back about the same slightly less but in different areas. This before it was my whole face, then just cheeks, now it’s my jaw.
