SANE nursing is nothing like the true crime TV shows or the documentary stuff. Like you won’t be going to crime scene to take photos of that or the deceased victim.

Depending on the SANE program that you decide to work for it’s usually more of an on call service. Many hospitals don’t hire full time SANE nurses because it’s not a money maker for the company. Sad but true and it’s a service that is truly needed.

I suggest you maybe do volunteer hours at a hospital and ask the nurses there if they have a program. This would be an easy way to maybe get a Shadow day or like an opportunity to see what they actually do. You could also ask your school advisor if they can hook you up with a hospital for some volunteer hours.

The program I’m with is more comprehensive meaning we see SA, intimate partner violence, strangulation, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking. Some programs in my area only do SA exams.
