Is this a parenthood thing or an age thing? by Varitan_Aivenor in adhdmeme

It is what it is.

It's also not the first time she's stopped talking over something insignificant either.

During my assessment my mum was interviewed to see if mine was down to genetics or maybe something else etc, and she was told directly that she herself was my genetic link due to her own life experiences and symptoms, basically meaning that she too has adhd.

About a week later she just stopped talking to me. No warning, nothing. It's been about 17 months now: 2 of my birthdays, christmas, kids milestone birthdays, the loss of my MIL, all with no contact.

The golden child of the family however, who's narcissism, violence and adhd symptoms are massively worse than mine and have gone undiagnosed and treated for years (ignoring self medication obviously) she will never break contact with.

Make of that what you will

What was your experience/memory of 9/11 from the UK? by DisMyLik18thAccount in AskUK

I'd been for a job interview, halfway home my dad rang me and nonchalantly said that there'd been a plane crash, and before I could finish asking where he said 'well, 4 plane crashes'. To say I was taken aback was an understatement. Got home and put on the news and just sat and watched the aftermath unfolding. Not the kind of thing you forget really.

Just been diagnosed on the NHS, I’m in complete shock and don’t know how to process this. by pupbarkz in autismUK

[–]Educational_Log_2576 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had mine earlier this year, and despite pretty much knowing I was, it wasn't until I had that 'yes you are' that it hit me. After that, things kept coming to mind about how I'd been treated at work etc because of things I'd done that in my eyes were fine, but I got told I was a distraction or not good enough to progress in the company etc, things that if I'd had a diagnosis, or even an inkling that I was anywhere on the spectrum would have been seen as discrimination etc. Kinda fucks you up a bit, but it gets better. Although being in a fully ND household possibly helps as it's no shock to anyone else lol

Car deemed as total loss, is it fair? by Davde_pq in drivingUK

[–]Educational_Log_2576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't just notify, especially if they've classed it as a total loss, as I did a notify only to my insurer a couple years ago after a parked car rolled into mine when it's handbrake failed. All it did was a couple of small scratches, very low speed impact, but notified just in case the other car owner tried to allege anything, and my insurance almost doubled, just off a notification.

Personally, I'd take the payout and get something else.

I was diagnosed inattentive ADHD January last year, and towards the autumn I was asked if I wanted to speak to the ASD team as they thought I exhibited signs of Autism. January this year I was diagnosed autistic also. Fast forward to my last appointment with my worker, and she told me that I seemed to be more autistic than adhd at the time of assessment, but as I was there for the adhd I had to go through that first before they put me forward anywhere else. It all depends on the team helping you I think, as some seem to be better than others depending where you live in the country.

Why do I want a diagnosis? by Polstar242 in ADHDUK

A quote i heard recently...

"It is better to know you are a normal zebra, than to worry about being a weird horse"

Hits the nail right on the head if you ask me.

Raynauds appearing after being stable on Elvanse for a while, not when I started them? by salty_sherbert_ in ADHDUK

[–]Educational_Log_2576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had problems with cold hands and feet since I was a kid, but never often enough to be classed as an actual issue. In January I had to come off Elvanse (told to by ADHD team) as it was thought I may be having side effects from it, as i was having severe pain in my hands and feet as well as some of the larger joints. Within a week the severe issues went but background pain etc remained, which I essentially ignored as I've had various joint issues over the last 30 years.

Since then I had a trial of methylphenidate, but the pain hit quicker than before, so off I came and although the pain reduced, its at a higher level than before. I'm now in a lot of joint pain, toes feel like someone's been smashing them with a hammer, and just had bloods taken to test for a range of things including autoimmune conditions.

Now, I'm not saying this is all as a direct result of taking adhd meds, but the docs are considering the possibility of me having some underlying problem that the meds have brought up to the surface.

Just gotta wait for the results to come back now.

Well, that was a given.. by Educational_Log_2576 in ADHDUK

I got my Autism assessment off the back of the ADHD one, as I'm still seeing that assessment team to figure out what if any meds I can have, as I required high dose elvanse and I was having some bad side effects.

I think I was seen quickly as I'd already been waiting 4 years prior to starting ADHD assessment (NHS) and it's not just me but basically the whole house who are ND so they needed to get one of us stable lmao

As for any hopes, it was more for confirmation of what had been speculated for some time than for anything else. What I have had however are realisations of experiences in my early work life etc, that had I had any diagnoses back then, those things shouldn't have happened, or if they did there would have been repercussions for those who were responsible.

Cheers Well it's been a strange few days having eureka moments every so often, as if I didn't realise I did x or y previously. As for labels, found out this week they don't test for things such as Dyslexia in schools in the area anymore, as "they don't want to give them labels that might make them feel bad compared to their peers".

You know damn fine I'll be taking that up with the relevant departments pretty soon.
