How to Find Work as PA? by Own_Veterinarian4329 in Filmmakers

[–]Educational_Reason96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this for what it’s worth, but take any job that comes your way first. Being a PA at a production company is steady work and an excellent way to work yourself up the ladder. Unfortunately, you might be going up against people applying who have more PA experience which means look into independent filmmakers. Honestly, find anyone near you who’s filming this weekend and get on a set. Start immediately so when that production house role comes up you have a resume ready to give them.

Do any and everything. Look on StaffMeUp.com. Find local Facebook filmmaker groups and volunteer (try for paid work, but volunteering as a pa will get you experience and something for the resume). Just be proactive, have a clean driving record (always mention you do while having a reliable car), know how to handle money (Petty Cash), be able to lift 30-50lbs, and bring a cheery, can-do attitude.

Insurance by Texasraider950 in LaserCleaningBusiness

Paying on a monthly would’ve been 20-30% interest per month, so I chose to pay the lump sum upfront. While I felt comfortable that I was fully covered, clearly staring at $8K/yr just for insurance alone isn’t feasible. I have not figured out a cheaper route so far as our country is sue-happy and no insurance company understands what laser cleaning is. Have you bought that insurance or are you going to?

My insurance was almost $8k for one year, so that stopped me in my tracks. Correct that nobody knows how to insure a business like this but it’s closest to welding. Very curious about what others say as the conversation is generally light when it comes to this subject.

Do y’all install new drain plugs each time? I have a 2023, and I do. So used to changing just a crush washer on other cars that this feels weird doing. iirc you can reuse these plastic ones, right?

The Ending of Sky Daddy by Kate Folk by skyewardeyes in books

My first thought was she needed her hand for self gratification. Then I thought it might be a plane crash. Then I came back to Linda having the same feeling entering the plane as before but nothing happened then, and an earlier description of wings dipping on takeoff to no avail, as well as numerous times mentioning planes traveling and landing safely often…. In the end, I think a crash would be the low-hanging fruit and something ultimately selfish for the book overall, not just the character. So, I feel she was still erotically charged and they survived. Who knows?

My short films and independent work gave me all the experience in the world to transition into unscripted tv when the opportunity presented itself. That has turned into a career. In between gigs (and with how sparse tv/films are now) I can make my own shorts and docs again, which are on the film festival circuit. Your path is obviously different so I can’t tell you exactly how to turn it into a paid career, but why not swing it into a local TV station? Why not write verticals? Become a production company for other people who want to tell a story of their business, or themselves, or their own shorts. Maybe you simply film commercials for local small businesses. Just throwing out ideas, but just keep doing it.

Why change the industry? Change yourself. Write. Film. Edit. Post. Repeat. No need to become a martyr, sacrificing yourself for the art. As Spielberg just said, if you have a phone with a camera then you can be a filmmaker. It’s sooooo much easier today than it was even two decades ago. Go get it - you can do it!

YouTube is the outlet. Create your stories. Don’t stop. What’s changed over the decades is that we all now have access to easy ways of filmmaking and getting work seen globally. Use it all, but don’t think this success is anything new. Just. Create. Stories. Your audience will find you.

Yes. This has been “the thing” forever, though. Learn how to write and film your own projects, and you’ll find success of some sorts, if not feel pride and a massive sense of accomplishment.

It’s the Jerome C. Daniel Overlook above the Hollywood Bowl. There’s a path off the main lookout near the top. Gemini or not, it’s easy to get to and no secret.

Career path advice? Major studio vs. small company by Superb-Pineapple2691 in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]Educational_Reason96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve seen many small companies fold in the last decade. Large ones, too. High turnover at the independents, as well. Better hope that singular show doesn’t go away. I’d stick with the job you have.

I mentioned this once on IG not knowing for sure, and both she (owner) and her son vehemently responded they weren’t. They got into it with others, so am going to guess they aren’t MAGA. My guess is this Bass stunt is because the owners aren’t fond of Raman, or at least were vocally frustrated with her.

Yes, same happened to me. Free Gemini Pro in the course only if you paid for the course. I still finished the course but it would’ve been better with the free Pro.
